Title: Huge bug in new firmware. DO NOT UPGRADE!
Post by: Artoo on May 21, 2015, 11:08:04 AM
After update: After some time there will be no connection to the camera. Have two 935L, same issue with both.

Dlink fix it!

How was the upgrade performed? Wired or wireless? We recommend wired if possible.

What browser did you use to upgrade the FW? I recommend IE or FF and have any PC security programs disabled during the FW upgrade process.

I recommend doing a Factory reset, then manually upgrading the FW using the downloaded FW file, then factory reset once more then set up from scratch with a wired PC to avoid any upgrade problems over wireless connections.

It was all done using the "MYDlink Home App" - It told me that there was an update.

The is no RJ45 on the camera, only wireless!

Do you use the 935L and the App?

I have downgraded to a lower version.

And by the way, the issue is not the upgrade-process itself but the new firmware. Camera is running well for an hour or so.

I recommend if you can, try the wired upgrade process to apply the new FW to one of the cameras using factory resets then set up from scratch to ensure it applies correctly. Use a PC to test this out. If the FW still fails to install correct and the camera operates incorrectly afterwards, you may want to contact D-Link support and advise them on your experiences with the new FW.

What Mfr and model is the main host router?
What is the distance between the main host router and the cameras?
What wireless modes are you using on the main host router?

The firmware installs just fine.

And please read this again: Cable is ___NOT___ an option as there is no wired connection on the camera, please see picture of this camera and you will see.

Sounds like you cant acept that there is a issue with the latest firmware?

I have done firmwareupgrades before just like this time, no problem with earlier version.

Anyway, I have sent a message to dlink.

The distance is 2m with line of sight and the router/accespoints is Cisco/Linksys E3200. No other devices connected wireless.
The setup has been working flawless for months.
I am very sure that this issue is related to the new firmware (1.04) that came out this morning.

What is very strange: It is not possible to acces the webinterface in the camera and the stream is dead but the camera is responding to ping. So this must be related to the firmware.

Firmware 1.03 is now in the two cameras and everything is back to normal.

Well, I got a reply from DLINK but what is extremely stupid that it is not possible to reply back to DLINK. In addition, they even want me to supply more information.

There is only a link to https://www.mydlink.com/contact/

Very, very very stupid.

Serious? Come on DLINK.

We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email. Ask for level 2 or higher support.
Let us know how it goes please.

Update:

Update: I have been in contact with Dlink multiple times and the result is that we never found out what was wrong. Instead Dlink sent me a new 935L as the the camera we was testing with died upgrading the firmware. I have now bought a new D-link accespoint (DIR-605L) and my second 935L has no problem with this accespont so what I can conclude is that the new firmware is not working very well with non-dlink accespoints.

However, I have now experienced a new problem with the 935L: Poor wireless performance, I will make a new topic concerning this.

You might want to try a better DIR series router. The 605L is ok however may not be a good for Wifi and range.

I was too early, camera is still locking up. Not able to access the video-stream or the web-interface after some time. Camera is still on on the network as I can ping the camera. Only this problem with the new firmware.

This 935L is simple not worth the money.

Hi!

Any progress?

I have the same disconnect problem with my DCS-935L after firmware upgrade to v1.05.01 through the mydlink Lite Android app. The camera never had this issue before the upgrade but now it disconnects very often. On the last disconnection I could see in the router's system log that it refreshed its IP (DHCP) between 07:21:47 and 09:33:51. After that only the other DCS-932L cameras refreshed their IP's.

The camera system log seems to be cleared on boot so I cannot see anything there.
I'm able to ping the camera, but not access it through the web admin interface. The mydlink Lite Android app lists it as offline.

I'm using:
Camera name: DCS-935L
Firmware Version: v1.05.01
Hardware version: A
Agent version: 2.0.19-b40
WiFi encryption: WPA2-PSK

Please, set to highest prio!

Is there a way to access it through SSH and fetch more debug logs (since it seems to respond to ping)?

Regards Mikael

To others: DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA. I think DLink should remove the camera from the market.

Only other think you might try is to downgrade the FW on the 935L. Do a factory reset, load the v1.00WW FW manually using IE or FF thru the cameras web page, Let the FW apply, then do one more factory reset and set up from scratch. You need to have the camera LAN wired to the main host router and connect to the IP address the camera gets from the main host router. Use a LAN wired PC as well.
You can get v1.00WW and follow on version here:

Everyone,

I know this would be a long shot, but has anyone done a HARD reset (pressing the RESET button) after the firmware update and reconfigure the camera?
The reason for this process is firmwares sometimes have new drivers that must be apply on reboot... being that this model only have a Wireless interface, makes sense to keep the drivers updated, a hard reset forces a default reload of everything on the new firmware (a clean reload per se)

Let me know if anyone has tried it and please if you are NOT in the United States, stay in contact with your local D-Link Support Regional Office (by phone) since unfortunately they do NOT roam these forums.

Yes. I have tried, many times, doing a hard reset using the small pinhole at the back of the unit.

As concern the new camera I got today: It is not even possible to reach the web interface - that is quite obvious considering the very poor ping performance.

I will contact DLink and tell them what they sent is not working and claim another one.

Thanks for getting back to us... that's unfortunate  ???,  this is the first 802.11AC camera D-Link puts on the market and so far my sample connected to my DIR-890L has shown no issues... my camera is connected about 40 ft. away from the router crossing two walls and I can get a HD quality picture using the mydlink Lite app and the mydlink portal, I have not yet updated to the 1.05 firmware, so I'll try today.

I'm trusting that your regional D-Link office support guys can help with that... keep us posted.

If you can see the signal quality for the connected devices (fx the 935L) in your router/accespoint then try to keep an eye on that and at the same time pressing the "Site survey" in the web-interface of the 935L.

I'm located in Sweden. Using a Dovado Pro router with the following WiFi settings:
- 802.11 b+g+n
- Auto channel
- Bandwith: 20Mhz
- 2nd Channel Data Rate: Auto
- SSID broadcasting
- Fragment Length: 2346

I also want to point out that I have used the same configuration for a very long time and had no issues before the firmware upgrade. My other three DCS-932L cameras does not have this issue. The cameras are close to the router.

Update:

I never managed to get the system (2 * 935l) working with my Dlink DIR605L. Fortunately, a new 1.05 firmware was released so I decided to try one last time with my Linksys-Cisco E3200 and luckily, everything works perfect now.

I have asked Dlink about what they have changed in 1.05 but they have not been able to answer that question.

Thanks for your help.

Sounds like this could be an issue with the DIR series router... I recommend talking to them about what your seeing and give them the information on the routers. IF one works and the other doesn't, possible the FW on the DIR series router needs to be reviewed...

Hi! excuse me for non-presentation! I'm from Italy.
I have returned the cam...too bugs for me but I want to reply your questions:

What Mfr and model is the main host router?  Netgear DGN2200v4 (look at my post above...)
What wireless modes are you using? 2.4 Ghz
What is the distance between the Camera and the main host router? about 1,5 meters
Was a factory reset performed after the update then setup from scratch? yes

I can add that if I stop the Upnp service on the cam performing a manual forward of the ports on the router the cam announces again the standard ports 80 and 443.
I think there are some bugs in the firmware so I have returned the one I have bought.

Hi!

Firmware v1.03 has not the disconnect issue. I used it for a month and it did not disconnected. I recently saw that there was a new firmware release v1.06.02 so I updated the DCS-935L cam. But that version also has the disconnect issue. So it is definitely a firmware change after v1.03 that causes the DCS-935L to hang.

(I think I have noticed that the LED on the back of the camera is constantly on when it has frozen... When it's working it is blinking right?)

Is anyone at D-Link looking at this? Does it have a issue ID? Is there anyway for me to support you with the troubleshooting? I have worked with embedded network devices before so I can hopefully help you hunting this bug.

Best regards Mikael

Let us know how v1.03 works for you.

I think I forgot that this model camera doesn't have RJ45 connector. Sorry.  ::)

You can get v1.00WW and follow on version here:
http://tsd.dlink.com.tw (http://tsd.dlink.com.tw)

Let us know if you see any improvements...

Just got my new USED camera from Dlink.

Same story: Very poor wireless performance:

Svar fra 192.168.1.129: byte=32 tid=101ms TTL=64

There is something very very bad with this camera.

I have now spend so much time with this camera that I don’t know what to do.
To others: DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA. I think DLink should remove the camera from the market.

I have downgraded to the latest (and old) firmware available at the D-Link support page, v1.03 b01, and the DCS-935L has been online since then (~ a day uptime).

Using a cable with DCS-935L? Are there such hardware versions with RJ45 connectors? My have only WiFi support.

Best regards Mikael

Hi again!

Since the disconnect issue has not been seen in v1.03 but in the v1.05 and v1.06 (I have not tested v1.04) I started to watch the source code of the different releases. I saw that CONFIG_CPU_HAS_RADIAX was introduced in v1.04. Could the code related to that define affected the stability an maybe hang the system?

Can I get in touch with a firmware developer for this issue?

Best regards Mikael

Is this the form I shall use in order to get in contact with the support:

https://services.eu.dlink.com/home/main/SSPLogin.aspx

or is it:

http://www.dlink.com/se/sv/contact-d-link

I posted the issue in https://services.eu.dlink.com/home/main/SSPLogin.aspx before but it was removed and I don't know why.

I have found out when the bug happens. It happens on firmwares later than v1.03 b01 on DCS-935L when the HTTP port is changed to something else than 80.

I have been in contact with the technical support and they can reproduce the issue by changing the port number.

Hopes for an update soon.

I have this same problem. Configuration is flaky to begin with, but even after setting it up correctly and having it generate a few snapshots, the camera stops sensing.

It remains online, just dead in the water as far as monitoring is concerned.

I am away from the device and the web app doesn't show the firmware revision. It might be 1.06 but I can't be sure. It was an OTA upgrade offered through the Android app.

What Mfr and model is the main host router?
What wireless modes are you using?
What is the distance between the Camera and the main host router?

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

I had contact D-link and they give good help with the special software that's needed to put new firmware into a bricked camera and a link to latest firmware.
I didn't had time to test,  of it will work out, i will give the results here.
  :D for now i'm happy  :D

The sollution that D-link me gave, doesn't work but i have it works again.
the camera works with a bootloader!  how it works?
when the camera is bricked  the ssid will change from DCS-935L-161C    THE 161C are the last 4 digits of the MAC-ID of the device, so this is different on all camera's  so when you see 161C  you have to converted into the last 4 digits of your device.
In case of bricked camera: the SSID will change into rescue-161C (without encryption) because of the rescue  in the ssid  you will know that the camera is bricked so without a firmware.
So you have to start with the built-in bootloader, when you connected wifi with the camera (dhcp), the website of the bootloader wil be 192.168.1.30
so in the browser you can browse to the firmware file and start the process, the update wil take at least 140 sec when the leds are out, the firmware is ready, unplug the power and replug it, after a wile you see the SSID  (With encryption) the same as written on the device, and you can follow the config as a new device.  login naam "admin"   and leave password blank.   So i hope that can help this other people.

I was having my two DCS-935L drop out on a daily basis (at leat one of them) and switching to firmware version 1.03 has worked well for me. Four days since switching one of the cameras to 1.03 and absolutely no unscheduled disconnection issues. The camera still works fine with Synology DiskStation 8 as well. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED fix.
