Title: Powerline Adapters good idea?
Post by: BiGxChucK on August 15, 2014, 10:10:11 AM
Furry,
I'm really interested in one of these adapters! We moved into a 2 story house and I can run cat5/6 cables upstairs without running them outside first. I'm a hard wired connection guy and these seem like a great idea? Do you get the same speeds using these powerline connections wired as being wired directly to the router?

I think it depends on what connection rates they support on the plugs. I haven't used them and like you, i'm a hard wired LAN guy so I tend to avoid using any PL products. I'd review the connection rates supported on the LAN plugs, hot sure if they support Gb or 100Mb only. I some cases I think they would work well.

Can't get someone to run you a CAT6 cable inside the wall some how? It probably can be done.

I'd phone contact D-Link and ask questions about these before you buy.

I ran all the CaT cables in my last house and it was easy since it was a single story. The new house is 2 story and I have looked into running the cables in the walls but there is a subfloor between floors 1 and 2 so i was unsuccessful. I will keep reading into these powerline adapters but from what I have read they have made good advances in the past couple of years

Call and ask about port speed support. Maybe good solution for you.
