DIR-655 and DAP-1522 issue
« on: June 23, 2012, 08:52:48 PM »

I have a DIR-655 which has been providing wireless in my house for a while now, but the signal upstairs is weak so I bought a DAP-1522 to extend the signal.  So I found the instructions to be a bit confusing so I went to youtube for some help.  I'm able to access the setting in both devices so I'm not a complete 'tard, but I don't think my remote access point is functioning  correctly.  If  I set up the 1522 in either auto or AP setting, I assume that is "adopts" the name of the 655.  So if the SSID of my 655 is "assface", then the 1522 is also "assface" and behaves like an extension of the 655 with the 655 issuing the IP's.  But it seems like all my devices are still only connecting to the 655 as it seems to make no difference if my 1522 is plugged in or not.....I see no boost in signal.  So how do I tell if my 1522 is actually doing its job?  If it's connected to the network properly, should I be able to access it from my laptop at 192.168.0.50 with the 1522 in the AP position because I can't.

What wireless modes are you using on the host router? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N on the host router first?

If your using the 1522 as an AP, yes you can use the same SSID name, however the channel needs to be different from the host router, so if the 655 is using Chl 1 or 6 or 11, the 1522 needs to be set up on a different channel other than what the 655 is using. Usually Auto Scan works however in some cases it's recommended to manually set the channel on the 655 and 1522 that way you know what they are using and the channels wont change. I might configure the DAP manually to effect these changes.

Are you running the DAP in AP mode with a LAN wired cable to the 655? This should work well. I have set up a few routers as APs and wired them to the host router. The DAP wizard should guide you thru this or you can manually configure too.

Mixed N and G

The 655 is wire to the internet POE and the 1522 is NOT wired to the 655.  It's in another room.

Thanks,

Scott

One more thing you can try as a test, turn off the wireless security on the 655 while you try to connect the 1522 and see if it connects correct. Then after testing, turn security back on.

When I change channels on the 655, the 1522 also changes to the same channel.
