I guess I have another small suggestion...

All of the other wired/wireless cameras that I've used have separate IP addresses for the wired and wireless connections.  The 5222L seems to use the same IP address.  So when I was setting it up for wireless, there was really no indication that I was using wireless instead of wired.  I was assuming that wireless wasn't working because I never saw any indication that I was on it instead of wired (of course until I tried unplugging the wired connection).

So my suggestion would be to have some sort of indicator on the status tab indicating whether you are connected wired or wireless.

No big deal for me now that I have mine all set up, but just a suggestion.  And of course the manual may tell you this, but I never read it :)

Title: Scheduled patrol starting time.
Post by: mailming on July 02, 2012, 06:26:14 PM
The camera has great patrol feature, it will auto route to some preset position during patrol process.

However I cannot find any scheduled patrol time, that is, patrol process cannot be started at given time or times. can only be triggerred manually, that defeat the purpose of camera patrol recording.

Hope this can be added.

when the camera was working on the patrol mode (moving one point to another), its received image is considered motion activated, because the whole image was changing, (even it was programmed to do so), the motion active feature has a bug not able to differentiate real motion or motion due to patrol rotation, I think it is a feature bug.

This bug also applies to motion notification feature.

I’m trying to use this camera to monitor and record activity in an office.

The current firmware 1.01 only allows me to capture portions of activity.

In the Snapshot section: ie. 6 images taken at 1 second intervals.

1 second intervals sounds fast but with a person walking across an office, you might only capture a couple images at best. Then a pause before it captures another set.

I would like to see the firmware add the ability to:
Take 3 or 4 images per second. (and ftp them)
And keep doing this until the motion has stopped.

So allowing the interval to be set to .25, .33, .5 seconds would help

Also being able to select “continuous” based on motion. That is if the image keeps changing, keep ftping images at the rate mentioned above.

An older Dlink camera “DC-930L” with probably much less memory and slower CPU in the camera seemed to be easily keeping up with 3-4 frames per second (ftp’d)

Of course the filename would have to be extended by a character to indicate 1,2,3,4,5 (or whatever)

-------------
It might also be nice to have an option to ftp all images to a common directory instead of the drilled down date directories. (ie. don't create the yyyymmdd/hh/ directories. The filename has all that info already)

Added. . .

Although I am unsure how "continuous" based on motion differs from the motion detection already available. Either option would seem to send images during a motion detection event. Although perhaps not ideal given the always-on PC requirement, you can capture true continuous motion using video capture using D-ViewCam.

You can clearly see the 10 second gaps in the images time stamps.
We are getting 6 images, then there is a pause for 10 seconds before the next 6 images.
(This 10 seconds is the "Send next FTP after X seconds") setting.

It would be ok to ftp the images every X seconds, but images should be captured constantly.

Hope that makes sense.

PS: Willing to test/experiment with any beta firmware for this feature.

Wishlist:
Add remote access to SD Card contents via FTP or sftp. Have a check box to turn this functionality on or off.

Add longer video clip record times (ideally up to 60 seconds with matching interval so this can be set up for true continuous recording.

It would be great to have a bit more detail in the log as to why a failure might occur.

I am having an issue where the storage device isn't accepting video/snapshot recordings due to running out of space but the log simply reflects a general failure.

Not sure how hard it would be to implement, but would be good to have.

NTP time sync seems to be faulty as the cam sometimes gets the time on startup and sometimes does not. It should try every hour or so and not just on startup like now.

Hi I have been running a DCS 5300w webcam with it you could put pics to an ftp site without a new id for each pic so that the pic would continually overwrite the the previous .That way I can pick up the pic on my website (www.scillyman.co.uk ). I have bought a DCS 5222L and I can`t see how to disable the id suffix on the snap shots. This fills up the ftp site and my website cant pick up the pics. Anyone know how to do this.
Regards

Hi, Just out of interest, DLink support tell me that this facility is not available on the DCS 5222L although it was on the DCS5300W.

I just installed my first 5222L and have a request:

Would it be possible to add an option to the Patrol function to continuously cycle through preset locations until manually stopped?  My experience is that it goes through the list once and stops.  This would be helpful for continuous recording and for remote viewing.

Thanks!

I would like to have another bugs corrected relative to motion detection since a wrong motion is detected when changing from day to nite vision, both if it is an automatic or manual change.

Always about motion detection I have a question:
I have now activated the PIR only, but I frequently have wrong alerts. I say wrong because nor the photos nor the video sent contains any evident motion sign. Do you think my hardware is failing?
Don't the PIR have to react to warm body only? Can you clarify me the difference between PIR and alarm based on differences detected between one photogram and the other?

I am going to move your original post containing this question to a new thread in the main DCS-942L section, as it relates more to configuring the camera rather than a wishlist item.

A great option to add would be the ability to HTTPS to my camera. On my knowledge, but I'm not an expert, a simple HTTP can be viewed and so the password of the camera intercepted for later abusive access.

Thank you very much and excuse me for my bad English!

Hi There:

I thought when I filled out a couple requests on this list a month or so ago, that these requests were something that went direct to developers for this product (aka DCS-5222L)
Shortly after posting, I then got the feeling this might not be the case.

I've submitted the requests to get the camera up to snuff with being able to constantly generate jpg images and at a faster rate so it can be used as a security camera (and I dare say this, but not as a toy)
It has great potential, but not quite there yet.

Can the op please reply with any info on what the odds are of this feature list of improvements actually being implemented.

Thanks.
Kind of holding out for a firmware, but if its not really going to happen, I think this camera needs to hit e-bay and I need to keep shopping.

NTP time sync seems to be faulty as the cam sometimes gets the time on startup and sometimes does not. It should try every hour or so and not just on startup like now.

Strangely it is the same bug of DCS-942L cam, solved only on latest firmware release.
Some months ago I gave a look to the manuals of the two cams (DCS-5222L and DCS-942L), and the firmware settings seem to be the same (except settings related to Pan/Tilt/Zoom feature - after all the  hardware is different).

May the DCS-5222L users give a look to the DCS-942L wishlist to see if the bugs are the same and/or even the required additional features? Thanks.

Although the similarity to the DCS-942L is quite compelling, do you know offhand if others experienced this issue on the DCS-5222L?

I want to add 'Linux Support' to the wishlist.
I'm running Ubuntu but it's impossible to view the liveview in any of the browsers (Firefox, Opera, Chrome).
It's Java, so it should be possible to make it work on linux.

Thanks!

When you create a preset for where the camera is, you can also create motion detection area with each preset (or with 2 preset).
At the moment it's one preset for the area on the motion detection so if you move the camera the area which is set for detection might not be marked out.

After a reboot please let the camera go to the user-defined home instead of the default home position. After a power faillure we have to reallign all camera's...

Please create a menu item in the web configuration page for cloud configuration without the Mac or Windows software. Current construction is awefull and painfull.

Please support PTZ in Synology Surveillance Station.

For next hardware version I would love to see a wider view. My old D-Link camera had a much wider view and could zoom in. That was a DCS-5230. Unfortunately this one did not support Synology Surveillance Station.

Hello,
A few things ....

Security problem #1, turn off http when https on

Sftp

Ssh console for accessing sd card files?

Possibility to modify always settings - time (e.g. On saving to sd) and path. (For easier access all files in one directory/day)

Possibility to save on directory on NAS/ server ( smb /cifs )

Define camera patrol positions for snapshots, which are combined sent in ONE email.

Security problem#2 when you logout/ close internet explorer, firefox, you are always able to login without password if you just restart the session. Timeout to long for session.

Thx
Sorry just testing...
Regards
Roman

I would add basically same FW structure as DCS2310, mainly event management,  more snapshots to email PIR event, more detailed log, detailed definition for IR switch...

Thx

Can you please provide more defined items here (rather than referencing the DCS-3210 FW)?  Too vague.

1) Event management should be more configurable:
Define through:
• Server: E-mail, FTP, Network Storage, SD Card
• Media: Snapshot, video, system log

• Event: Trigger (Motion detection, Periodically, Digital input, PIR, System reboot, Network lost); Action (defined from Server/Media)

• Recording: schedule, settings,...

(have a look to DCS-2310)

2) for snapshots more pre/post snapshots like pre 4, post 7

(have a look to DCS-2310)

Hi,
I'm referring to the web interface settings.

"Possibility to modify always settings - time (e.g. On saving to sd) and path. (For easier access all files in one directory/day)"

record to sd:
The always time setting  because might be to much every second a record.
If you want to see the pictures you have to flipp through lots of directories, hope I'm not mistaken.
A directory per hour is to much.
So if you have the possibility to define  per day you could easier flip through, timestamp is on the file itself.
Especially if you install sftp for download it would be handy.

User password change I did not find.

Being in privacy mode the ir leds are always on they should be off.

Thx for adding some thoughts.

You'll have to define this better as I do not have access to a DCS-3210 for reference.  ???

Hi,
Important would be to be able to turn off ir illuminators also when it is dark....
Reason : I wanted to see my terrace which is perfectly lit with lamps, but the cam behind the window in the dark room turned on the ir illuminators and those reflected in the windows, no picture possible.

Security: email subject and content should be editable and do not send MAC address of devices.

Cyclic sd recording seems not to work as well as deleting content from sd card....deleting content works but very very slow...

De-reconnecting network cable to the cam seems to hang some functions (sd recording)..

Title: Built-in web server support for non Mac, non Windows
Post by: jjd on November 29, 2012, 03:53:18 PM
It would be nice if the built-in web server of the DCS-5222L would support linux browsers.

See this link:

http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=51246.0

But I will summarize here:

Using chrome on Linux results in the built-in web server not showing live video and recommending that I install some windows-specific plugin.  However, if I change the User-Agent of the browser to pretend I'm on a macintosh, then the live video works fine.

I suspect the code says something like:

if (this is a macintosh) {
  do mac stuff;
} else {
  do windows stuff;
}

It should probably say:

if (this is a macintosh) {
  do mac stuff;
} else if (this is windows) {
  do windows stuff;
} else {
do something that is likely to work on non-windows, non-mac machines
}

Perhaps this would make it work in Android web browsers as well.  (I know there is an android app, but the built-in web server application has many more features such as the ability to turn on/off the IR illuminators.)

I also have a problem with repetitive PIR motion sensor alarms in every 15 minutes.
Lot of false alarm and mail.
Very annoying! :(
And there is no firmware update since June?
It was a very expensive camera for me, especially in Hungary ...
Please help!
Thanks!

when does a new firmware come out? There are many bugs I have seen in the forum and also encountered like the motion detection which is vital for me.
Could you please comment on that?
Otherwise I think about returning my Cam.

D-Link does not publicly disclose it's firmware release road map. For different D-Link products I've observed firmware releases spanning weeks to many months apart.

Please add this:

Release the full firmware source code!  While Dlink does share the open source components of the firmware, they share _only_ the open source components.  I downloaded the source code and there is nothing camera specific in it - it's all stripped out / missing!  This is not really "supporting the open source community" - it's just taking, without giving back.  I want to be able to update the motion tracking algorithms with my own and release it back into the community.  But with the way it is now, it's not possible.  :-(

Wow! What a wishlist from owners of Dlink DCS-5222L cameras.
I was one of the first on the list to post what I thought was a simple addition.
(putting something in the camera code that already exists in other D-Link cameras)
And correct me if I'm wrong.
But I don't think D-Link has added any of the request from the list.
Very disappointing!
Expensive camera that sounded good, but failed!
This list makes a good feature list for a cheap knockoff camera.
They exist in hardware, but if they could accommodate the features on this list, they would have a winner.

I have hardware produced in one of the plants D-Link uses to produce some of their hardware in China, and I know first hand its hard to get exactly what you want. And from my personal experience, if its not in the product when it gets shipped, good luck with any updates.

Sorry not trying to be the negative post and rain on everybody here, but just calling a spade a spade.
Other that the URL this forum shares with D-Link, it would appear nobody at D-Link with anything to do with this camera ever looks at this page.

Sorry, but this list is for firmware functionality. AFAIK D-Link has never released the full firmware for any of it's products active or discontinued.

But that is just my point.  The current firmware blows on on what is otherwise an excellent hardware.  It seems like Dlink is expecting people to just hold their breath and cross their fingers and *hope* that maybe Dlink will add some of the stuff on this wishlist to a future firmware release.  But speaking from my past experience, the firmware will pretty much stay the way it is now except with some bug fixes... and that's pretty much it.  No major new features.  No vastly improved motion detection.  If Dlink released the full firmware source code, they'd have an army of open source programmers (including me) wanting to take this hardware to the next level.  The competition would be blown away.

As it is now, I have this expensive camera that cannot properly detect motion when a person is walking across on the sidewalk right outside my house even at 100% sensitivity, and I am frustrated.  It will only detect motion when a large object is moving - like a car.  I am an expert programmer with 20 years of game programming / video image processing experience and I am sitting here just wishing I could write some code for the camera.  :-\

I've been using the 5222L for the past few days.  There are several things (other than the lame motion detection) that is preventing me from using this camera as a serious surveillance camera as opposed to being just an expensive toy.

1) The SD recording produces videos that are sometimes choppy and sometimes freezes.  Happens to about 1 out of every 3 recordings.  The choppiness - the video is smooth then freezes, then becomes smooth again, at a frequency of exactly every 1 second.  Sometimes it would be smooth then freeze for several seconds before continuing again.  Both scenarios produces loss of frames, which is completely unacceptable for a surveillance camera.

2) There is no way to do a mass download of SD recordings.  I have to individually click on each video to download them.  This is very time consuming.  Chrome / Firefox plugins / extensions to download all links on a page do NOT work because the camera does not produce normal HTML web pages, and these plugins / extensions fail to recognize the links.  There is no FTP / SFTP / FTPS / SSH capability.  The only way to do a mass download is for me to drag my 14 foot ladder out and climb up to the camera to pull out the mini SD card in order to put it in my computer.

3) The SD recording AVI files are accompanied by JPG files - 1 for each recording (which I did not ask for and do not see a way to turn off).  These JPG files are useless.  They seem to be JPG stills for the very first frame of each corresponding AVI recording.  Why useless?  My SD recording is set to start recording 5 seconds prior to the motion detection event.  So what does this mean?  Every JPG still has nothing useful in it.  Just the same blank scene in every single one.  Either turn them off (they waste space / clutter up the screen) or give us a way to set exactly which frame produces the still (I would pick "8 seconds into the SD recording").

In addition to the other numerous bugs I have seen so far, here is another one:

If you click on the "full screen" button in the Live View window the screen shows a narrow 4:3 aspect ratio picture instead of a 16:9 picture.  How did your testers miss this?  Oh right, we are the testers.  :-\

Here's another one.

I have profile 3 set up to full resolution 1280x720 at Excellent quality (the highest possible).  When I take a snapshot, the files that it produces are only 160Kb each (of course it will vary depending on actual scene content, but I am using a known reference to make my point here).  The scene has very noticeable jpeg blocking and artifacts.  This is not "excellent" quality by any standard.  In Photoshop, this compression level would be considered "medium" quality.

Proof - I actually get better still image quality by going to profile 1 and setting that to 1 FPS at 4 Mbps CBR and capturing stills from the recorded video.  The compression artifacts are far less than what I get with profile 3.

I am pretty sure that the firmware uses one of the standard Linux image libraries (probably GD) - and the compression is level is internally set using a number between 0 and 100 (0 being worst quality, 100 being best).  It seems that the "Excellent" setting corresponds to a setting of approximately 75 (which is not all that great).  I would prefer to be able to enter a number between 0 and 100 myself or add a "Super" quality level which corresponds to passing a value of 99 to the GD library when compressing to JPG.

Another thing to add to the wishlist for developers like me:

* Add 160x80 30fps YUV 4:4:4 (or 4:2:2 or 4:1:1 or 4:2:0 whatever the native sensor image output is) streaming (RTSP) support.  This will allow 3rd party developers to bypass the poorly developed built in motion detection and do our own processing on a PC.  The problem with using the current h.323 / mpeg4 RTSP streams is that they are too heavily compressed to do any real image processing on (too many compression artifacts).

* Optionally support RAW (bayer mask) streaming for 160x80.  Or even straight RGB.

* Also - a way to control image exposure (shutter speed).  The current built in software works fine for daytime but at night time the software tries to adjust the exposure every frame instead of smoothly interpolating the exposure.  This results in a lot of unnecessary strobing in dark scenes.

It is a must to control/change all ports (https & co) in web-admin. All bought cams are useless as for me now as I need port 443 for exchange (OWA) and finally all external exchange clients can`t log in anymore as 443 is blocked by the cams via router`s UPnP.

Funny thing 443 is portforwarded to the servers IP but the cams force the router, as trying to call the port till it`s opened by UPnP. One time opened, it`s  blocked - the UPnP-entry (443) blocks this port till I manual delet all entrys in table. Then external exchange clients are able to login again to the server.

So only solution is to control this port - change it camera side to another like you have it on other models!!!

Thanks - same I will post to the DCS-942L as this model is also same firmware & have same bug!

Hello.

I am having this camera at an entrance in a workoutcentre and sending snapshots through FTP to server when Digital Input goes high. I would like to have some kind of indication in the GUI if digital input is high or low. Now it is a bit tricky to do the setup when you have to look at the FTP server if digital input is triggered or not.

And last request is already on the list but I would also like the cameraposition to go to a preset position when camera reboots/powerlost.

Thanks
Daniel

D-Link does not typically openly publish when the next firmware version is due for release, nor does D-Link normally provide any indication of what changes will be made.  ???

The 5222L has one digital input and one digital output connection on the back. You can get things to happen on a digital input signal like send snapshot via FTP or mail. But when I have connected a cable to digital input and triggers that signal there is no indication neither on hardware or in software if that signal is triggered (logic high). It would be great if there was like a colored dot somewhere in the Gui wich indicates green when input is logic high or red when its low.

One truly annoying bug that I really want to see fixed in the next firmware update is:

Once in a while (2 or 3 times an hour) the video image will shift down and to the right what seems like 4 pixels.  Then 2 seconds later, it shifts back to the original position.  Doing that, it triggers the motion detection and causes the camera to record, wasting space and wasting my time looking at these videos to find that there is nothing important in them to look at.  I have hundreds of these videos wasting space on my camera.

Hi all! My two wishes...
1.
For me this issue

"Motion Detection - Motion events are erroneously triggered when the camera is in patrol mode (i.e. the camera perceives the camera rotation as motion because the image is changing)"

also applies to to moment in which the camera switches from day mode to night mode (if configured to "auto"). Every time this happens, I receive a notification. This shouldn't be the case.

2.
iOS and Android apps should work with push notifications in addition to emails.

My items for the wish list

1. On power up the camera should return to the home position (if there is one) rather than the default position
2. Need to be able to set light sensitive as on the DSC-2332L, so that the camera is not constantly switch from day to night visibility, in low lighting situations.

Hello Dlink,
When I purchased DCS 5222L yesterday, I thought that there's an built-in speakers into the camera itself. This is according to the manual and the specs. I was disappointed to when the I called the support and told me there's none. With this, I'm planning to buy a mini speakers so I'll just attached it to the camera. I'll be using this as a baby monitor and I need the speakers so that I could talk to my wife while she's taking care of the baby and I'm away.

However, when I added the DCS5222L on my dlink lite app on my iphone, I noticed that there's no option to "speak" so that I can be heard from the camera. I called dlink support again, and they confirmed this as well. The "speak/talk" feature works OK when using the browser but not using the iphone app. Can you please give me a workaround for this? Can you please include this feature in the firmware or in the apps itself?
I'm currently monitoring my baby and my wife from my workplace and accessing the live feed from my browser in the office is not possible because it's blocked, so I'm only using my iphone.

I'm planning to exchange this with DCS-2132L, can you please let me know if this camera supports the "speak/talk" feature from the mydlink lite apps from iphone?

Thanks,

Hi,
As a new user of the DNS-5222L I am pleased to see a lot of my wishes are already listed. I checked the DNS-5222L Wishlist on the 1.10 firmware and the following features/bugfixes seem implemented:

And in addition to the current wish-list, I'd be pleased if there is a WiFi signal indicator at the status page. The web UI was performing terrible, but since I moved the router a bit and increased the WiFi signal, things are way better.

Cheers!

As a new user of the DNS-5222L I am pleased to see a lot of my wishes are already listed. I checked the DNS-5222L Wishlist on the 1.10 firmware and the following features/bugfixes seem implemented:

  • Snapshots - Improved snapshot resolution (rather than 96x96) - Equals the movie size now.

  • Following reboot/power failure, camera should align to user defined position rather than the default home position - Not sure what the problem was, but it now returns to the custom home position.

  • General - HTTPS support - There is HTTPS support.

  • General - Selecting "full screen"  in the Live View window displays 4:3 aspect ratio frame rather than 16:9  - Not sure what the problem was, but live view at full screen equals my widescreen laptop

  • Video - Ability to control image exposure (shutter speed), particularly in night mode - This is embedded only as a general setting, prefer to have it set as some sort of custom night mode

And in addition to the current wish-list, I'd be pleased if there is a WiFi signal indicator at the status page. The web UI was performing terrible, but since I moved the router a bit and increased the WiFi signal, things are way better.

Cheers!

Thanks for your contribution. I will update the wishlist accordingly.  ;)

  • General - Option to change the ports used by the camera
It can be found at Setup --> Network (WebUI)

Thanks again! Updated.  :)

Title: DCS-5222L - Firmware Disaster
Post by: mikenicholson on July 30, 2013, 09:59:41 AM
Does anyone have a link to the original FW for the DCS-5222L?  The latest version 1.11 has rendered my 2 DCS-5222L's worthless due to motion detection.  I had them setup and working fine on the original fw, but now its impossible.  Day and Night use the same motion settings but respond very differently.  I am either getting one snapshot minute, or missing cars in the drive that fill the entire screen.

Time & Date2013/7/30 12:54:40
Firmware Version1.11
Firmware Build Number2825
Agent Version2.0.17-b21

I just want to go back to the way it was before.  Any links or posting of the original fw would so hugely appreciated.

It would be nice to have some kind of wireless signal strength. My other cameras have it and it does help.
It may already have something like this but I sure couldn't find it.

It would be very useful to have the ability to record and send email both on a scheduled time base and when a motion is detected.  Now you can only choose between one of these options.

I also agree with a lot of  new feature requests already listed.

Thank you very much

Hi everyone! I just became a recent owner of a DCS-5222L and member of the d-link forum.

I believe the few most fundamental features of a pan/tilt ip camera that needs immediate addressing are as follow. Now these are mostly included in the DCS-5222L Wishlist (By the way, I noticed that JavaLawyer miss-typed it as DNS-5222L Wishlist instead. I'm pretty sure it's not a Domain Name Server. ;) ) but I would just like to highlight and elaborate upon them here as I am eagerly awaiting for these features.

The ability to automatically track via pan and tilt to follow any moving objects that comes into view, or more commonly known as Auto Motion Tracking, is important because a person cannot be setting in front of the camera controls manually tracking objects 24/7. Given this ip camera's current ability to accurately define where motion is detected via the finer motion area grid, this feature could be easily and definitely integrated. When the moving object is finally out of range, the camera should hold that last tracked position for a few seconds before finally giving up and returning to its previous/home location or continue to cycle patrol depending on what was configured. On a side note, has anyone found any supporting application that can perform auto pan/tilt tracking? I doubt the D-ViewCam does.

Just as sound is automatically muted during camera pan/tilt and thus temporarily disabling sound detection, motion detection should automatically be disabled when the camera moves itself too.

Another limiting feature is the flexibility to send the next FTP capture or recording immediately after the previous one. Anything could happen between the current minimum 10 seconds interval that goes uncaptured. This might have something to do with uploading multiple files within the same FTP session. If that's not feasible, perhaps opening up a second session?

As for the wishlist items addressed, even with the latest firmware v1.11 build 2825 update and using IE10, I don't see the ability to specify the light level required for day/night mode transitioning. I would assume this option to be listed under Setup>Audio and Video>Day/Night Mode section but I can't find it anywhere else either. I got my latest firmware from here: https://www.mydlink.com/support

I believe this has not been added to the wishlist yet:

Video Clip for FTP and SD Recording - Recording duration based upon length of triggered event. For example, if motion stops being detected half way through recording, the recording should stop too. Dynamically varying the record duration will further optimize captured recordings to only include motion or other triggered events for as short or as long as they last. There could a setting to enforce a min and max recording time regard of how short or long the triggered event lasts.

Hi,

After having just bought this camera I'm very impressed with the quality of the image and the functionality.

However, I did have a problem with setting up email alerting using smtp which took ages to work out.

Therefore, it may be a useful addition to the software to have a "test harness" page, which could check the following:

1) Internet connectivity / Ping Facility:
       - this could confirm the camera can access the outside world (and using a test ping dlink address)
could verify that any connectivity issues  might be password/config related...

2) A real-time monitor for thresholds:
       - Noise Detection Threshold
       - Motion Detection Threshold
       - Day / Night Conditions

       - This would help to get more accurate settings appropriate to each individual environment
to reduce false alerts or missed alerts

       - A more advanced option of this is a learning mode where the unit would ask the user if an alert was true, or respond to a notice from the user that it missed an alert...
       - The problem with the existing parameters is that this has no real meaning... (i.e. difference between 69 and 70)...

3) Sleep and Delay on Resume

       - Finally, when I'm in the house I put the camera in Privacy mode.
       - preferably, id like to see a Sleep mode / low power
       - When going to bed, and using the remote control to switch off privacy, a small delay before leaving the room to avoid a false alert.
       - There's nothing to be done in the morning so a first false alert is expected) unless the iOS app myDlinkin+ / Lite can activate Privacy mode before coming downstairs..

4) Auto-Motion Tracking

       - Someone else has mentioned auto-tracking which would be a very very advanced feature

One minus point

a) False Alerting when panning

       - When panning the camera via the browser, this will trigger the motion alert.
       - This is obviously because the scenery is changing, but as a thought, on a user issued command
to pan the camera if the alert is suppressed, this would perhaps make more sense.
       - This perhaps also has an impact on auto-patrol (is such an option available)?

Hope the above make sense and I'm pleased to see that this is a well supported product with recent firmware updates

Regards
Mark

hmm.

Manual Tracking does not trigger a "motion capture" alert - but will operate until always recording.

I'm guessing there's some potential for tweaking the actions, triggers / events and outcomes with a device.

D-Link does not publicly publish firmware release roadmaps. Please keep in mind that this is list is maintained by the forum community (ergo "wishlist") and does not necessarily reflect the functionality D-Link will choose to incorporate into future firmware releases. I can say that D-Link does review the content in this forum, including the product wishlists threads.

Since I own a 2332 too these days, I noticed this config screen in the WebGUI.

I say, dear DLink, add this one to the 5222L too please! It is absolutely is a perfect feature to control your cam and be able to switch to night mode (and have benefit of the extra light sensitivity) without activating the leds.

DCS-5222L is obviously a failed product, why DCS-2132L and DCS-2310L are so good? I have 3 DCS-2132L and 3 DCS-2310L.

- Startup of IPCAM is very slow. => please make 50 times faster.

The nature of these requests cannot be addressed by firmware (i.e. increasing wireless connection by 1000% would require a significant change to hardware, while 2000% and 5000% performance increases for the remaining to requests, respectively, would most likely require a faster CPU, again a hardware change out side of the realm of firmware).

It doesn't work, I had also tried. It will always return to the system default value "10"

What browser are you using?  Try IE 10 or earlier.

Hi All,

Not sure how far any of these wishes have proceeded to becoming an actual feature for this camera. I for one need to express my concern that Dlink is not listning to valuable input from the channel in regards to features their cameras are sorely missing.

We need to get auto patrol back into the firmware with ability to setup a scheduled patrol of set locations. As per my post on other artilces the PTZ function is practially useless without the ability to auto patrol on a schedule.

Can someone please tell me if they have managed to get this working and how!

"We need to get auto patrol back into the firmware"? Auto patrol was never an option in the firmware to start with. As a stopgap measure, you can use D-Link's PC application D-ViewCam for automatically moving between Patrol presets. The application supports the creation of events for moving between patrol presets and can also serve the function of managing scheduled recording and playback: D-ViewCam Board (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?board=156.0)

Log into the web UI and navigate to SETUP > Camera Control. On this page you can set and save the default Pan Step and Tilt Step.

That was my first guess, but didn't work. After reading your other reply about trying using Internet Explorer, but no sucess again. Firefox, Chrome and IE. None of them save the pan and tilt steps. The SAVE button works only for position presets...

Please make the lenght of user names and passwords for email notification longer than the actual 30 characters.

Thanks.

Hi
my whishlist:
- as in the DCS5300G UI add the very useful "All the time except for the above schedule" checkbox in the schedule setup.
- improve the settings for motion detection (again see dcs5300G ui):
--- eg. add the percent level
--- add the gauge showing in "real time" the strength of the events (useful to find the correct settings)

- improve the algorythm of motion detection.... currently really not usable  :(

Thanks a lot

You'll need to elaborate on these items as the request is vague.

Unfortunately, D-Link does not provide a public roadmap for future firmware release dates or new functionality.

As the thread subject implies, this thread is a wishlist containing requests assembled by the D-Link forum member community. Since this is a forum community maintained thread, there is no guarantee that specific items requested in this wishlist will work their way onto future firmware versions. However, I can say that D-Link does visit these forums and reads our comments.

Very important to allow to modify the subject of email alert. That allows automated email collection engines to manipulate the received email and manage according to rules.

Please add the following to the wish list if you would be so kind:

- Ability to move camera via "point-and-click" (or tap/swipe for touchscreen interface) when in browser "Video Full Screen" mode and/or add right-click pop-up menu to select from preset position list when in the full screen viewing mode.

- Ability to configure periodic DDNS update rate to as frequent as hourly (to reduce the time the camera cannot be accessed from the internet using hostname service when DHCP IP change occurs and DDNS update fails). This will eliminate the need to either use the camera's "reboot" option to automatically, or to manually, correct a loss of DDNS synch.

- Ability to select FULL or QUICK format of SD card

This will alleviate much frustration for me...  :)

Thank you!

Thanks for adding the SD card request.

For the "Full Screen" related request, I was primarily referring to the Internet Explorer plugin in the camera's HTML interface. I assume that is where this "ability to move the camera in full screen mode" functionality exists?

For mobile, I use JustConnect+ and that app. to my understanding, always operates in full-screen mode and already has the capability to move the camera, so I have no issues with that mobile app. Sorry for the confusion.

So again, can you consider modifying the browser plugin so I can move the camera in full screen mode when using an internet browser from a Windows PC (including a Surface PRO and maybe other tablets that use the browser plugin and have a touch screen interface)?

Much appreciated!! :-)

MyDlinkLite 3.4.2 on my Android tablet has this swipe thing you mention. It works all my 5222l rev a and b. and 5010L.

I don't like it.

Is it also possible you could focus efforts on resolving reliability issues as highest priority over new features? Much appreciated if you could.

This is a firmware wishlist maintained by the forum community and is not a promise that something will (or won't) make it's way into new firmware. D-Link does visit the forum and I can say that they have read through wishlist threads maintained for various products here.

Chrome is getting rid of NPAPI-plug-in support (@ Sept 2015) and most other browser will follow. I think that calls for a rewrite of the liveView.cgi that is needed to see the camera's live video or change the Setup/Maintenance. Since that looks to be included in the firmware, it should be modified to house a different type of plugin.

Other Mfr browsers should be tested as well as a alternate to Chrome while this issue is in transition. I presume D-Link is aware of it and will take steps to ensure there products continue to work with all browsers.

Would this be the right place to ask if the video compression has actually been optimised? I just upgraded a pair of DCS2132L's from their factory firmware v 1.01 to the latest v1.05.02, and at the same video setting the bandwidth (as reported by my DNR322) dropped from around 950kbps to around 250kbps. That's a 75% reduction in bandwidth with no changes in settings, so I assume it's simply down to optimisation. My DCS5222LB2, at firmware 2.03.01, at the same video settings as the 2132's (i.e. 1280x720, 15fps, fixed quality "good") are using 2500kbps. That's ten times the bandwidth and the same resolution.

Given the 75% drop I saw when upgrading the 2132's, I wonder if the 5222's also need a tweak?

Please post the features and bugs you would like to see corrected in the next DCS-5222L firmware update.

give us error messages that gives us more information then "test error".

don't promt user who isn't authenticated with the device name and version, it's a a unnecessary security risk.

I realize the original post was written 2012 and its 2015 now and every issue is still around, op clearly didn't deliver.

HI.

Firmware Version   2.14.04
Hardware Version   B
MCU Version   20140207

My problem is that the camera is on the ceiling and set to a certain position to record.
After a power failure the lens came into another position and record totally different image. I must re set the camera each time in the desired position after a power failure which is kinda frustrating. I want a feature added to preserve the set position after a power failure.
Thank you!

b) scheduled reboot every 6 or 12hrs.  This camera always disconnects from router and needs power cycle

I'm not sure of your setup - is there a 2.4GHz traffic jam in your area?

Would a 5Ghz signal work?

There are devices/repeaters you can use to switch to 5GHz, just wire your camera into that, and connect 5GHz to your router.

I don't like all your apple devices though.  My one apple ipod has caused me so many disconnects.   >:(

I moved the 5222L to another home with less crowded wifi and is now stable, plus the router is good too (dir-885L).
I hate wires :), so would not physically connect IP cam to lan port,  I do have a wireless repeater though.

The scheduled reboot once a day still helps.
btw, there are several non-apple device :) .. 2 andriod phones, asus laptop

Wishlist from me:
a) add 3rd or 4th event.   It only have max of 2 events + continuous NAS recording
b) improve internal watchdog logic, if 5222L is not connected to wifi or failed FTP, then try internal restart or full restart maybe.
c) Snapshot FTP transfer - add "Day Folder" instead just FTPing pics to one folder which is really having too many files already.
d) Add cyclic SD CARD recording - e.g. delete oldest image/video on SD card when full.   FTP also stops when SD card is full.
e) SNAPSHOT URL - add option to disable authentication (same as 942L, 930L, 5020L, 960L )

Thanks.

Hi all,
I would like to have another bugs corrected relative to motion detection since a wrong motion is detected when changing from day to nite vision, both if it is an automatic or manual change.

Added...

Thanx you bro ^
