poor data transfer
« on: October 12, 2021, 09:21:27 AM »

Greetings,

Hopefully I am asking in the correct area.

I purchased the DIR-X4860 4 days ago.  Set up was a breeze.

I have a 250meg internet connection.  When I do speed tests that is the number that shows up if I am right beside the unit. My smart tv that has line of site and is connected via 5Ghz usually gets around 180meg.  There is buffering issues when streaming.

When surfing Reddit on my phone there is a delay in videos loading.  If I switch to my cellular data no delay.

My cable modem has wifi built in but doesn't have the range I want so I got a better router and had my ISP switch the cable modem to function as only a modem.

I went back to the store I bought it from and he thinks the unit may be defective.  Do any of you have any tips that I can try to resolve this without having to return it?

  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?

What channels are you using on the router?
What happens if you disable Smart Connect on the router and setup two different SSID names?

I am at work now so I won't be able get you all the data but when I set the unit up it asked if I wanted to update the firmware which I did.

I am in Saskatchewan, Canada
I have a Cable modem Hitron, model CGNM

I will get back to you on channels and on disabling Smart Connect.
