2.4GHz SSID never visible
« on: December 04, 2016, 02:04:15 PM »

HW Version: A1, FW Version 1.07WW

I have had my 880l for about 3 months. Was working fine. Then about 4 weeks ago I notice the 2.4GHz band is not showing in an SSID list scanner I have.

I rebooted the router and that seemed to cure the problem, then last week it disappeared again. Another reboot made it pop up in the scan list for about 1 minute, then it disappears. I went in and tried adjusting the 2.4GHz advanced settings. Whenever I saved a change, the SSID would pop up, but shortly disappear.

I scanned this forum and see that some problems like this were cured by doing a factory reset. I have tried this several times in between firmware updates and I still have the same problem. Except that now the 2.4 band SSID will occasionally pop up without making any settings changes.

When I do try to connect to th 2.4 band whenever it is visible or by specifying it by name, the connect fails. Sometimes with an out of range error.
The 5GHz band continues to work just fine. I am only having problems with the 2.4GHz band.

I have no 2.4GHz wireless phones.  I have another 2.4GHz access point, at the other end of the house using a different SSID and channel (6 versus 1)

Are your antennas good? Snug? Have you tried moving the antenna around to different ones? (That's a long shot)

3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.

I recommend upgrading FW to the following: v1.08

The SSID scanner is portable and is with 5ft of the DIR-880l

Try changing 2.4Ghz to single mode N and to channel 11.

As I originally stated:

Anyway I tried changing 2.4Ghz to single mode N and to channel 11 again.  No change. The SSID appears for about a minute before disappearing.

Please update FW using this link and the linked FW update process:
http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=65883.0

Don't load any saved config files. Just set up from scratch and test.

If this fails then I would phone contact D-Link support and ask for an RMA.
