DHCP ip address range?
« on: September 29, 2007, 04:01:01 PM »

Hello
My next question is about ip range in DHCP. I have default value from 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.199. But when first computer is assigned i will take 192.168.0.198 no 192.168.0.199. Where is address with end 199?
Thank you for answer

We could assume that it does not give 0.199 or 0.199 for the network ID and the Broadcast.  If a user set his whole range to DHCP 0.0 - 0.255  the DHCP server would never give out the top and bottom of the pool range.

¿?¿?¿ safety feature ?¿?¿?

hi,

just manage to find this post, i not sure if this have been answer before. understand that the DHCP server give addresses descent 198, 197,196, 195... Is there a setting that can set the DHCP not to give address in descent order.

it would be better to be in the ascending order :
192.168.0.100
192.168.0.101
192.168.0.102
192.168.0.103

Being just switch over from another router to this one, have some hard time adjust to the descent order of the DCHP ip address, hope that there a option in the next Firmware release we can have an option to set it as ascending/descent order?

Really hope to hear from dlink support way the router is make this way, DHCP ip is given in descent order.

Many thanks
Regards

Can't agree with that. I'm using defaults also. IP address of my pc is x.x.0.199
