Mobile viewing without using D-Link cloud?

(1/1)

cmontyburns:
Given that the camera's onboard webpage viewer requires either Java, ActiveX, or a mysterious H.264 plugin, it appears that there is no way to view the video from the camera on a mobile device without hooking it up to the D-Link cloud service.  Is this correct?

JavaLawyer:
Here is a new released by D-Link that works independently of the mydlink services: Justconnect+

cmontyburns:
Thank you for that.  Obviously I hadn't come across it!

Unfortunately, though, the app just gives me one more reason to be disappointed in this camera: the app connects, but no video!  It's amazing, and kind of insulting, that D-Link shipped the 5020L.  The few things that do work are far too cumbersome (browser administration requires not one but two plugins; focusing is manual and poor), and way too many things don't work at all (FTP and email among them and -- still, since the JustConnect+ app doesn't work with the camera -- mobile viewing).

JavaLawyer:
Quite often, when D-Link releases new cameras, the mobile apps and mydlink services take a while to catch up and provide full support for new camera models.
