I will add my tale of woe having had several email exchanges with support and following suggestions in the forum. Both SharePort Plus 4.30 and then SX Virtual Link report that the Brother HL-2140 Series printer is available via the DIR-835 router but they cannot connect. The Dell Inspiron Win 8.1 64b notebook can drive this printer directly via the USB port so the printer drivers are there. A Dell Venue Pro 8 Win 8.1 32b tablet successfully connects and prints using SharePort Plus 4.30 as does a Win 7 Home Prem 64bit notebook using an older version so the router and printer are functioning alright.

Support had me upgrade the flash ROM of the router from 1.04 (unknown build dated 8 Jan 2013) to 1.04B24 dated 20 Jun 2013, turn off anti-virus (Win Defender), UAC, and, reading this forum, also the computer firewall (Windows), all of which are running in the two other computers. All to no avail.

When run first after installing, Shareport gets stuck in autoconfiguration of the printer device looking for device drivers, saying to install them, even though the printer was installed. On later runs, trying to connect gets stuck with the message "Connecting to Brother HL-2140 series. Please wait..." from which it will not exit.

Now email support is directing me to phone support... this is really too much of a bother.

I would suggest that if your having issues and problems with SP, Windows 8 and the printer, lets avoid the hassle and install a DPR model print server instead;

Other Mfrs may have better Printer Server solutions...

We've seen issues with Windows 8, SP and all the various printers out there. Could be any combination that is effecting proper installation and use. I have this router, however I don't have the same printer. Mines an HP lasterjet. SP and printer and this router works well. However I don't use Windows 8 either.  :-\
