Change Hard Drive in Raid5
« on: October 07, 2013, 06:00:23 AM »

Hello
I have actually 4 drives in my NAS :
- 3 with a size of 2To
- 1 with 1,5 To.
My DNS-345 is configured in RAID 5.
I want to change the 1,5To drive to 2To one. Is possible without format my drives to extend my RAID-5 ?
Backup 4To is difficult !   :'(

Thanks
(sorry for my bad english)

Unfortunately no. The DNS-345 does not support RAID resizing. The size of the smallest HDD when the RAID array was originally formatted dictates how much space is used from each HDD. If you swap-in a 2TB HDD for the existing 1.5TB HDD, you will be left with 2TB of unallocated space (500 MB from each of the four HDDs), unless you format them as separate volume(s).

ShareCenter FAQ > ShareCenter - RAID Resizing

RAID resizing is usually only available on high end (i.e. much more expensive) consumer NAS.
