Are these numbers ok and some advice wanted.
« on: June 23, 2009, 01:34:14 PM »

Hi,

In my Status|Wireless screen(192.168.0.1) I see the following numbers:

Mode 802.11n (2.4GHz)
Rate (Mbps) 162
Signal (56%)

It's a Vista pc connected through a DWA-160 (A1, v1.20EU)
Properties of the DWA-160 are also 802.11n (2.4HGz en 5GHz)
My DIR-855 is one floor below.(staircase)
As far as surfing the Internet I have no problems but I wonder if I can make the numbers higher.
Also because in the future I want a wireless mobile in my kitchen downstairs.

My house:
Downstairs: my cable-connection(cablemodem) wired to DIR-855 on second floor)
First floor: nothing
Second floor: DIR-855 plus one wired pc (Win XP Home)
Third floor: wireless Vista PC with DWA-160

One last question:
The 5GHz network is a lot less then the 2.4GHz network. My wireless PC is connected to the 2.4GHz network. Is it possible to connect to the 5GHz network at the same time?

Hope for some advice to get my set-up running as good as possible.

gr. Philip

Part of the the 5.0Ghz specification is that the "range" of the signal is a lot less than the 2.4Ghz.

It should be noted that the DWA-160 is a dual-band adapter.  It is not a simultaneous dual-band adapter.  It will connect to either network, depending on the wireless SSID you select.
