It would be nice if the 655 supported DD-WRT or Tomato firmwares, but alas we are SOL on that front because of the licensing costs with the maker of the 655 core chipset (I forget their name as I write this); they wanted some ridiculous amount of money per unit for access to their SDK (aka firmwares) so DD-WRT scrapped work on our 655's....I read about this stuff at least a year ago or more....

I like having access to open source stuff....seems to promote better products of out the box.  Stinks for us.

My DIR-655 shows the following firmware:
Current Firmware Version : 2.00NA
Current Firmware Date : Wed, 12, May, 2010

I am not experiencing any of the described problems.

To those with problems :
What hardware revision is your router?

Mine is DIR-655_REVB ... can this be the difference?

Funny going through this thread and seeing all of the people who are sick and tired.

I've been having constant disconnect issues when I upgraded to 1.33 NA from 1.21 NA due to a problem I thought was hardware related but was just a simple port conflicting error.

Big mistake on my part, can barely even play a game for an hour on this router without getting disconnected and having the entire router crash and reboot 5 seconds later, going to downgrade back to 1.21 as it's obvious D-Link can't program their routers for s***.

Even funnier, a few months ago, I visited a friend who threw out his 655 for "something better" and when we sat down and tested his new router on a couple of "test your firewall" sites, we found that it was, for all practical purposes, wide open.  Failed almost every test and was really nothing more than a safety placebo.

His former 655A2 was solid when it came to safety.  His gripe was that it was sensitive to interference from his neighbor's transmitters and he wouldn't bother to do the proper analysis with InSSider.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.
.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? WEP, WPA or WPA2? Preferred is WPA2.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing

ISP - Barrett Xplornet, It's Satellite internet but we maintain constant ping under 50ms and at least 3.5mb down/1mb up and have not had any issues with the router up until this point. (We don't have landlines as we live on an acreage.)

We don't use a modem, the DIR-655 is directly hooked to the internet and acts as a standalone device.

DNS IP Addresses - Yup, checked them all.

Advanced DNS - Don't know if I even have this, if I do, don't know where to find.

DNS Relay - On as a default.

I have every device reserved for their own IP's.

Auto Obtain IP - Already done on mine, don't know about my brothers.

TCP/UDP Endpoint - Did this awhile back, read up on it.

Wireless G & N as I have Wireless N computers, but the PS3/Xbox 360 only supports Wireless G.

Auto WPA/WPA2 with Auto TKIP/AES.

Wireless Devices - Bunch of PS3s, Bunch of PC's, Bunch of IPhones.

Cordless Phones - 1, but we tested and bought one that doesn't disconnect us when the phone is picked up.

Problem is not with my PC, my router reboots itself only when I play one specific game online on my PS3, the Coop section of that game works fine but I can't play the Competitive Multiplayer part of it without my router completely rebooting itself. The only things that come up on the log immediately after it reboots itself is this:

This only recently started happening, and the only reason I'm still using this router is because I can't find my power cord for my old Wireless G D Link.

I would recommend checking out the sticky for gaming in the DGL-4500 forum.

Your using satellite and i presume you do understand there is propagation issues with satellite internet? Yes I had this some years back, way better then dialup. Not the best for gaming.  ::)

People always say that but we are on a licensed frequency, so only our ISP and our satellite can be using the same frequency.

I always get higher than 80% connection, I've seen it go as low as 67% before and never lower.

I have NO problems with ANY video games or ANY lag on ANYTHING. It is a problem with my router, not my internet, I have used this internet for 3 years without problems up until a month ago when this started happening, as I said though, ONLY when I play a certain section of a video game does my router ever have problems, if I stay off the game I have no problems. This to me makes no sense, and it's completely random, sometimes I can play 2-3 games and it'll reboot itself, other times I hop into a game and it does it right away.

Did you check out the sticking over on the DGL-4500 forum? Might need to set up some QOS rules for your device and see if that helps.

Gaming and Gamefuel for XBL.

This is a user configuration problem and not a HW problem with the router.
