insecure 655?
« on: November 10, 2016, 07:01:10 AM »

Hi,

regarding the 655 has not had a security firmware update since 2013 (1.37 version) I am not sure if it is still secure to use this device:

would you recommend using it? or getting another router?

best wishes!

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?

If your not experiencing any issues regarding security problems or otherwise, the router can still be used. If your concerned about it still, you could get into a 655 Rev B or C if you want to keep with the 655 series. Unless there is a bigger security concern that's found with the 655 series, FW development has been closed thus no future updates will be forth coming for any of the 655 series. If your not using the USB port on the 655 Rev A with a storage device, then I wouldn't worry about it.

thanks for your reply. I am using the EU version here in Germany.

can I use my dyndns.org account or do I have to setup a new ddlinkdns account?

I don't know if .org will work in your region, you can try it, if it doesn't then give ddlinkdns a try.

thanks for helping me out. will do!

main reason is: my current router (asus rt12) is not capable of gigabit and I am about to get 200 mbit/s WAN.

I guess the 655 can handle up to 400 mbit/s WAN-LAN NAT througput, right?

Ya not sure about a Rev A handling 400Mb WAN port speed throughput. The Rev A was out a long time ago well before those ISP speeds. You can try it and see, I would disable QoS, Traffic Shaping and DNS Relay then test. 1000Mb is a physical connection rate between the router and LAN cable devices, not throughput.

ok, everything near 200 mbit would be fine since that is my connection in the near future. hope it will handle that.
