Time is reset after removing from power
« on: April 19, 2016, 05:21:34 PM »

Hi!

We removed power from the camera every day for many hours and connected to power supply for the hours where the camera has to record. This worked for 20 days or more. Then we didn't use the camera. We tried to use it today but strangely everytime we remove the power supply, the camera resets its time. It is always the 01.01.2015 in "status" after we connect to power again. Thus the scheduler does not work correctly.

What causes this and is there a solution in our hands besides to send the camera back to Amazon?
I have applied the latest firmware of September or October 2015.

Setup Synchronization to a server.

If you are on a network that's not connected to the internet - you are out of luck.

Thank you for your reply. I did not fully understand your sentence. What caused the error when I remove the power supply and what do I have to change in order to avoid future problems? My camera is connected via wlan. Yes, the router ia also plugged off. Did you mean that if the camera is on power before the router is connected to the provider the time will be reset?
We did not use the ntp server to synchronize time as it takes very long until the current time gets synchronized and but we needed the correct time quick so we always had copied the desktop time to the camera.

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your DCS? Look at the sticker behind or under the camera.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the DCSs web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

What Mfr and model is the main host router?
What Mfr and model is the ISP modem?

I haven't tested setting the current time.

But I have one camera on a separate network, and it starts at it's original time - since there is no way for it to connect to the internet to get the time from the internet server.  I can not access the camera - since it's only job is to connect to an "offline adhoc network" with an iusbport v1.. ( v2 is here:  http://www.hypershop.com/collections/iusbport/products/iusbport2 ).  I can't access the camera until a factory reset is performed and then I can log in.

I think you are going to have to put it on the internet to get the current time for such events - or just enable motion detection and get them all on your network.  Or provide your own NTP system on your network to get current time.

Hi I got an answer from the support of Dlink and they said that the camera has no internal battery hence the time loss after unplugging from power supply.
If I synchronization is activated to an NTP-Server, it seems to take several hours until synchronization is done. This does not suit our needs as we want to power on the camera and have recorded it within a minute after it.
Is it the fault of the firmware that the synchronization takes many hours or is it the NTP-Server? If so, which server provides "real time" synchronization for Central European Time?
