Admin Password reset to blank
« on: January 14, 2012, 09:01:26 AM »

I set up my new DIR-645 with both an Admin and a user password.  I was able to log into the router using the assigned password for a number of days.  This morning when I went to log in, both the Admin and user password were back to blank. All of the other settings I changed are still the same. Can anyone tell me what might have caused this?  I did not update firmware or reset the modem.  Thank you.

does anyone have access to the router or is the admin password the same on the WiFi? Someone could have reset the router. If your the only person with the admin password that should be different from the WiFi PW, it should loose the PW. Those are the only ways of the PW being cleared besides a FW update.

Did you save the routers configuration to file after you set it up?

My husband is the only other person who could have physically reset the router and he would probably rather handle a rattlesnake than touch anything computer related  :D.  The admin password to the router is not the same as the security key, but the user password is the same as the security key. I did that so I would have a "back door" to view the settings in case there was a problem and I could not get in with Admin.  The user password has not been used. Yes, I did save my initial settings, but nothing else was reset other than the passwords. One other thing that I noticed.. the day before the problem started, there was no drop down for user name on the router sign in.  However, I could manually type in "Admin" with the correct password and get in.  Using the logs, I have also confirmed that no other machines have logged into the network or obtained an IP.  While I am a newbie at wireless,  it almost looked like the password file had been corrupted.

Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using teamviewer.

Not a configuration problem. It's a bug. I've have my admin password 'change' four times, and reset to factory settings four times. Same issue here:

What browser are you using? Does it happen in other browsers like Opera or FF?

Firefox 11.0. I could see the webUI demostrating different behaviour (drop-down user list vs. text box) depending on the browser (though this specific example would be supremely dumb), but I don't see what the browser would have to do with the router blanking the admin password.

I set my admin password again last night, and confirmed that it was working by logging in from another machine running Chromium. We'll see if or how long it sticks.

This has been fixed in v1.04
