Thinkin about buying a DAP-1522
« on: January 27, 2009, 02:46:02 PM »

I have a DIR-825.  I am looking to improve the speed of the connection of Media Server to my PS3.  Current G speed (PS3 limit) aren't fast enough to allow seemless streaming of MP4 files.  It stutters something awful.  However, it plays straigth rips (original uncompressed VOB fiels) just fine. In order to isolate if it was a connection speed problem, I hard wired my PS3 to the 825.  At gigabit speeds, I was shocked to find out that it played the converted mp4 files just fine.  When I connected it to my older G router, with 100mbps ports, it started to stutter again.  I am looking to add the 1522 to get the 150-300mbps speeds that N is capable of.  Howver, I am wondering if that will be enought to enable smooth streaming on the PS3.  Btw, the 825/media server and the PS3 are seperated by 1 floor, but less than 25 feet.  Does anyone else have this setup?  What kind of speeds are you getting?  Is it fast enough to enable streamoing of hi-def material?

I use a PS3 connected to a dap-1522 that connects at 5GHz to a dgl-4500. when using wmv I get a steady 38-42Mbit/s to the PS3. I dont use 2.4GHz because of the 12-16 others in the area. I also never had shutter issues when I used the PS3 built-in WI-fi, speed and other WI-fi in the area made me go with the dap-1522. Distance from router to bridge is about 35ft.

Ok, bought the DAP-1522.  I set up using the WiFi Protected process.  Whats strange is that I get a signal strength of between 50-60% at ~ 50 ft and thru 1 floor, however I cant get more than 108mbps speed, sometimes dropping as low as 40mbps.  Is there a special setting that I can use to get better thruput?  I have it setup for auto 20/40, 5mhz frequency and auto channel set.  Most of the time the stutter problem that I was originally trying to fix has largely been fixed, however when thrubput drops below 108mbps, I get the stutter...thus trying to maximize thruput.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Btw, Firmware is current at 1.10

I would recommend it. I had a decision of wether to get the 360's wireless adapter or get a dap1522 to do the wireless adapters job. Both are pretty close in price, while the dap1522 costs more, it will allow other devices without wireless to get on the network and should perform better in theory than the official adapter. So far I have had no trouble other than the setup process. Once you understand it and get everything going though, it works great.
