Dgl-4500 nat and port forwarding
« on: August 07, 2014, 11:31:59 AM »

Hi, iv been trying to configure my 4500 again due to Nat issues. I have followed the guide that is set for 360 users and have still been having issues. Also, is there anyway that I can actually check to see if the ports are opened that I have instructed the router to open? Such as web sites or apps?

If the ISP modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>Double NAT and How NAT Works. To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ. Refer to the ISP or Mfr of the modem for additional information.

if you mean i have all of my devices set on static ip but I'm not sure if thats what you are asking.
  • Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting and maintain consistency for applications that need to connect as well as mapped drives.
  • Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.

How do you have GameFuel set up? It should be using the single Xbox rule.

Have you done a factor reset on the Xbox Slim under Dash Board/Networking/Wired/Configure/2nd tab over/Factory Reset?

everything you just mentioned is how it is. iv played a few games of halo 3 and the connection is good. so my next question is how can i check to ensure the ports that i have forwarded are open? i have the xbox set up in gamer fuel. also the modem is successfully bridged. the number is the same as my external ip address. thanks

if all is set up well, you should be seeing NAT OPEN in the status. I can't remember how in Halo 3, I think there is a status information in one of the option windows. Do you have a different game like CoD or maybe Halo 4?

It's saying it's open. And the games are fine now. But is there anyway to ensure that the ports are open?

Thats all you need to check for...If it's OPEN then your good. Some games have this NAT checking feature.

Should work for you well now. Enjoy.
