DNS-323 Curent time and zone problem
« on: April 22, 2012, 03:14:06 AM »

I have a problem with adjusting the time on my DNS-323 ver.1.10.

When I correctly set my zone (GMT +01:00) and NTP Server ntp.dlink.com.tw show me the exact time, but you can not find the DNS-323 on the network.
Only when is in the zone (GMT-08: 00), then it is visible on the network. As if he should be in the difference in time to show on the network.

Can someone help me about this issue?

Do you have a particular reason for using that NTP server?

Have you tried using another NTP server from the drop down list?

When you say you can not find the DNS-323 on the network what exactly do you mean and how are you looking?

All our DNS-323s are set for time zone GMT +01:00 and we have no problems.

A: Yes, because it shows the best time.
A: Yes, but others NTP do not show me anything.
A: You go to the desktop icon Network or you go to Windows Explorer and on the left side is Network.
A: I have this problem for years....

From your answers it appears that you have something not set up correctly.

Since you say your time zone is GMT +01:00 I assume you are somewhere in Europe.  If so I question why a time server half way round the world would give you better time than one based in Europe considering the latency over the net.

There should be no connection between the time setting and the ability to find the DNS-323 on the network unless you have blocked it with the router in some way.

Since you say you have had this problem for years I would do a very careful evaluation of your network setup, paying particular attention to how you router is setup - what time zone is it set for, for instance.

When you set the NTP server to one that apparently does not allow you to find the DNS-323 have you tried using a browser set to the DNS-323s IP e.g http://192.168.0.??? or whatever it is?

Another thing you could try is to use netscan by SoftPerfect - it is free - to see if you can find the DNS-323 on your network.  If that doesn't show it up then it appears you more likely have a network problem rather than a NAS problem.

I have sam pictures, maybe help!

When I set to (GMT-08:00) Pacific Time, Tijuana, then the DNS-323 suddenly appears on the network in Windows Explorer.

Thanks for your help Ivan. :)

Have you tried setting the time by using the "Set Time From My Computer" option on the Tools/Time screen?  After you save the settings, reboot the DNS-323.
