Xbox consoles and no IP address...
« on: February 02, 2015, 07:26:35 AM »

So a 890L arrived Saturday and I was pleased to find it waiting for me. I didn't get a chance to play with it until yesterday. I got it going and everything went well for the most part. I left the Smart Connect setting enabled to see how it would work with all of my devices. Seems to work well for the most part. So all was good. Left for the bowl game then came back after and was going to play some CoD however I could not get my Xbox (S)lim model to connect on the LAN wire. Check everything and noticed that the xbox was not appearing in the networking clients icon list on the router. All of my other devices was. I removed the LAN cable from the xbox and checked to see if the WiFi adapter could connect. It saw the SSID and I used the PW. I looked at the network settings on the xbox and zero's appeared for a bit for the IP address then changed to 169.#.#.# and I new then that there was something wrong. Factory reset the xbox, turn off then back on for both wireless and wired connections. Nothing. Rebooted the router. I didn't factory reset the router as I presume I had done right after un-boxing then set up from scratch. For the life of the xbox, it could not gain an IP address. I spent 30 mins on it and gave up and connected a DIR-836L which had been running prior to the 890L arriving,  and xbox was working well on that router. After connecting the other router, boom, IP address on xbox and gaming commenced.

I'll check my XB1 this evening.

Any one exhibit this on any xbox console or any other game set?

I would however it doesn't appear in the client icon list at all. Nothing on the xbox networking IP address appears. I'll try setting a static IP address ON the xbox and see. I also connected the xbox to two different wireless bridges. I saw them online and in the UI. Zero IP address at the xbox though.  :-\

First router to exhibit this issue so far.  ::)

So I got home today and checked my XB1 and it would also not get an IP address from the router.

D-Link has been made aware of this...

Just set up mine.  No problem with getting IP address, but both my 360 and One are configured as wired and connected via ethernet to a 4 port wireless AC bridge (Cisco/Linksys WUMC710).  My smart TV did get an IP address with no problem though.  The main issue I had with the router was that I was getting a Moderate NAT error when I did a system test on my 360.  It is not clear thru user documentation how to ensure an open NAT, but I was able to accomplish this by enabling  IPV4 and IPV6 mulitcast streaming (default disabled) in network advanced settings.  UPNP was enabled as a default so no change there.

One thing you might try is to reset your router IP address to 192.168.1.1 from 192.168.0.1 and going back thru the set up process.  The "0.1" address was causing me some problems with my wireless bridge since it had a static address.

Thanks for posting...
Ya I didn't try 192.168.1.1.

ALl the reset of the devices got IP addresses including my DISH joey thats connected to a ASUS EA-N66 bridge in the bed room. Only two items that don't is the 360 and XB1 wired or wireles or wired to the bridge. Possible that my units and this version of FW is broke. I presume it's FW as my other routers have worked with out this kind of experience. I'm sure it will be resolved soon.

Glad yours is working.

Any NAT issues have been resolved mostly with resetting the networking settings on the consoles, turn OFF then back on. As long as your ISP modem doesn't carry any NAT, uPnP is enabled, OPEN NAT should be seen on xbox including multiple consoles. I reserve xbox IPs as .198 and .199 for me.

Got my router in yesterday and based partly on what OldnAchy said above and the fact that ive got some things setup to use 168.1.1, I immediately changed the router's IP during setup.  I do not have any bridges setup and I can say that my brother's xbox1 is connected wirelessly using 192.168.1.1 for the router.  At this time though I have not tried if the default IP address will still work with the xbox, and whether or not there is something else about my setup enabling this to happen where furry had problems.

IT would be a good test to see if the routers default IP address works or not. It's kind of hard to know if it's not tested out of the box using default settings to see of yours does the same thing or not.  :-\

You can save your current routers config to file before doing a factory reset. That way after you test, you can go back if you wish.  ;)

Thank you.
