Dap-1522 not resolving DNS with Dir-825
« on: September 25, 2008, 06:48:34 AM »

I recieved my dir-825 updtaed the firmware and am getting the same singnal strength and thru-put as my dir 655. I am running a N-only network. However my Dap-1522 will not work with this device , It ran fine with my Dir-655 . I have an XBox360,PS3 and a laptop that all worked with the Dir-655. It will not resolve the DNS server from the Dir-825. I am running the latest firmware on both devices. Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: I got it to work on the 2.4 band but it will not work on the 5.0ghz band which was the whole reason I went dual band. I am stumped as to why it works on one but not the other.

Have you tried putting both back to factory default and starting over?

Yes, thats how I was able to get it to connect on the 2.4GHZ band. I have 4 other computers hitting the internet from the 825 no problem. I bought the DAP-1522 for my gaming room and as soon as I switch it to the 5ghz band I get DNS errors from every device connetected to the 1522, yet all other computers can still get to the internet thru the 825.

Do the logs show a connection being made?

:5GHz Band wirlessN-a: Wireless system with MAC address  secured and linked:

but here is an error
DNS relay ALG rejected packet from 169.254.70.124:53785 to 192.168.1.254:53

the 169.254.70.124 is a phantom IP adress the DAP is sending to my DSL router when i try to hook up any device laptop, PS3,Xbox360 I have no idea wher the 169.x.x.x IPs are coming from.

Hmm, well that’s a new one for me. I’m not too familiar with the new dir-825. The only things left I can think of is first connecting the dap-1522 to your pc, set it up from your pc and try again.

How do you have you DAP-1522 set up as a Bridge or AP?

A 169.254.XXX.XXX is an Apipa address. It's normal when your device is not receiving DHCP from the host.

Thanks for all the replies!! My device is set up as a bridge. It look like the looks like the 5ghz signal is not strong enough to make it the 25 ft and 1 wall from the router to my game room. I can run fine on the 2.4ghz band and if I move the DAP-1522 into the same room as the router it works fine on both bands. This is dissapointing to say the least :(

Replying this question "How do you have you DAP-1522 set up as a Bridge or AP?"
There is a switch on the back side of the DAP-1522, you slide to choose the mode.

I can answer this after about 7 days and over 15 hours on the phone with customer support.

You CAN NOT set the DAP1522 to wireless in the 5GHZ mode as a wireless bridge. PERIOD

They will tell you that if you are trying todo that; you bought it for the wrong reason. You can argue; that was what it is marketed/sold as.

To use it in 5GHz mode, you MUST run a hardwire from the DAP1522 TO your router.

So if your like me and possibly 99% of the other customers, this now works worse than their older 634 routers that ran @108 speeds. It will NOT wirelessly connect to a DIR855/625/525 router as a 5GHz connection.

To reinterate: if using the 5GHz mode, you will have to set it as ACCESS POINT and hardwire a cat5e cable TO the router.  Otherwise you will just be left using the 2.4GHz mode wirelessly.

I have bridged with the 5ghz range. The problem is 5ghz suffers from penetration issues.

Umm, D-Link, can you please respond to this?  Is this true?  I'm considering purchasing a DIR-825+DAP-1522 for my media center PC setup, if this is true then I need to re-evaluate that plan.
