DIR-885L FORUM USER REQUESTS and BUGS
« on: May 17, 2016, 07:54:13 AM »

This thread is in regards to what users would like to request DLink to review and consider adding features to the routers FW and operation. Also this thread includes any reports of bugs that are re-producible, that should be reviewed by DLink seen bythat should be reviewed by DLink seen by us users. Please be detailed, concise and tactful when posting the requests and bug details.

Do not arbitrarily post defects or bugs here. Before reporting concerns about defects or bugs, please ensure that troubleshooting of the problem has been thoroughly completed before posting a problem about defects. Not all issues are a defect or bug related. Let other users help you troubleshoot the problem first before posting here. Post your initial concerns or problems in the forums first before posting here. Many issues seen are not bugs. Inappropriate content will be removed.

Demanding anything will not get us anything. There are no guarantees.

Please keep other subjects, topics and questions to other threads and posts. This thread is just a central list of Features and Bugs for review by DLink.

If you like, you can PM me your list and details and I will add them to a list I've started here.  ;)

FEATURE REQUESTS:
Example: 1. Add router web page timeout options. (Would help to disable this when working with users in making operations in a slow manor or for those who like to keep the routers page open there browsers for a long period of time.)

BUGS:
Example: 1. At 24 MAC entries it said "You cannot add more rules because the table is full. " Need to find out if this is a defect if other rules are not set up in the pool or if there is an actual limitation on setting up the amount of MAC entries you can have.

Bugs: v1.00 and v1.10
1. Blocking port usage for TiVo products: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=64838.0
2. Bad internet speed tests when any device is added to QoS, any priority section and wired speed test PC is not added to QoS. Speeds are very low and not to spec. Removing the device from QoS returns internet speeds tests back to spec: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=64865.msg269358#msg269358

Feature Requests:
1. MU-MIMO support: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=64798.0
2. Extender mode support: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=64050.0

wish list for DIR-885L
a) Move reboot option outside of system admin, not nice to have restore/reboot on same Page. maybe put it on new TAB Management/Restart
b) Have an option to edit DHCP IP reservation list in menu instead of individual icon
c) Ability of Guest Network to be on same IP segment as main (e.g. 192.168.0.x instead of 192.168.7.x)
d) Additional wireless SSID for each band.
e) On Shareport/ USB disk, add FTP server in addition to SAMBA
f) Show successful UPNP port forward by other device (e.g. dlink IP camera)
g) On Mydlink Lite, ability to turn off/on guest network

Thanks for the feed back and details:

wish list for DIR-885L
a) Move reboot option outside of system admin, not nice to have restore/reboot on same Page. maybe put it on new TAB Management/Restart
The reboot has always been located with in the system admin menu and I presume it won't be moved. It's a system admin kind of feature so I presume this is why they keep it there.
b) Have an option to edit DHCP IP reservation list in menu instead of individual icon
The list was seen on the old UI and the new UI uses the icon tiles.
c) Ability of Guest Network to be on same IP segment as main (e.g. 192.168.0.x instead of 192.168.7.x)
The would not be good as this would allow guest access to LAN side network resources which LAN side users may not appreciate. D-Link used to have a switch that could allow Guest zone access. This is seen on some model router, however not all.
d) Additional wireless SSID for each band.
Additional SSID? Each band can have one SSID name. Unless of course this model router supports Smart connect then one SSID is used for both bands unless you disable it.
e) On Shareport/ USB disk, add FTP server in addition to SAMBA  FTP is something D-Link may reserve for NAS and Camera products.
f) Show successful UPNP port forward by other device (e.g. dlink IP camera)
uPnP is mostly automatic and maybe having something more granular would be good for more advanced uses. I notice that uPnP notifications are seen on cameras. I see upnp status already in use by router seen on my cameras.
g) On Mydlink Lite, ability to turn off/on guest network
Something that could be done via remotely on the router if you enable it's remote access.

Wow a serious security patch, to be applied in 2 parts, thank you !!!!

Hmm, although d-link aren't among those listed to have patched for the KRAK attack :(

D-Link is aware of the WPA2 issues. I'm sure D-Link will post fixes as soon as they are available.

Thanks for posting that link again.  ;)

The guest zone disable button is not disabling it.
Status == disabled but I can still see the guest ssid and able to connect and surf the web.
I am on the latest firmware, 1.20.
Restart doesn't help.

Issue has been sent to engineers. Disable Smart Connect and the guest network will be properly turned off.

Are there any plans for a firmware update to support 160 Mhz channel width? I would really like that feature for this sweet router.

Thanks for posting. I'll pass this on for review.

Possible that the HW doesn't support 160Mhz however. Something D-Link will have to look into.

Thanks for your quick response. The BCM4366 radio does indeed support 160Mhz and the BCM4709C0 processor of the DIR-885l is the processor of choice for that, so that's why I asked. Right now Intel has released its Wireless AC-9260 mini-wifi (laptop) card that supports 2x2 160Mhz for a link speed of 1750 Mbps. From what I can tell, there are no 4x4 80Mhz cards currently available for laptops, so this has me concerned that I may never see the full connection speed of this router.

I'm not sure for how long Dlink supports new features for a given platform. Do you think it's a bit wishful to hope for 160Mhz support for this router?
