but am not familiar with static ip so i thought i might of been able to skip that part but alls im getting is internet diagnostic unable to load page, any help?
Obviously you have to set a static IP. If you google "static IP" you'll find hundreds of sites, including youtube videos, that can help you with this. Just pick the ones that match your operating system.

I'm having problems getting into Emergency Room on a DIR-615 C1. The unit has been giving me problems with dropping my connecting and needed a reboot almost daily. However my ISP was also giving me issues at the same time.

Currently I'm using a netgear my ISP provided WGR614v7. The performance lacks as to what the dlink was doing. Currently I can't get the dlink to connect to the internet. I have unplugged the cable modem, reset the dlink, plugged in the cable modem, then the dlink router. logged into 192.168.0.1 and did the setup. DHCP seems to connect but cable status shows disconnected. No internet. I can unplug the dlink and plug right into the netgear and all starts working fine.

Back to Emergency Room. I tried the following...

"Unplug the router's power cord and wait 20 seconds.
Get a pin, push the RESET button and KEEP IT PRESSED.
Connect the power cord back (while still keeping the reset button pressed)
Keep the reset button pressed for an additional 5 seconds after connecting power cord and then release. At this point you should see the power button blinking orange.
Connect over a WIRED connection to the router and set your network adapter IP MANUALLY to 192.168.0.2
Open http://192.168.0.1 in a browser. You should see a white page with a Browse and Upload button."

I see the power icon that will change to a solid orange and then back to green next to the green D-Link logo. I can not get the power icon/button to blink orange. I have timed it exactly 20 seconds after unplugging, pushing the reset button in, plugging the power back in and waiting 5 seconds. release and its green. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Running Snow Leopard on a macbook pro.

A quick warning for those attempting to use the latest DD-WRT firmware with their DIR-615 rev C1 as of today (3 April 2011). This firmware may cause some kind of corruption in your wireless signal controls, which is not reversible by simply overwriting the faulty firmware with a backup or with another one.

I used the firmware found here:
ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2011/03-17-11-r16454/dlink-dir615c1/

But afterwards, my wireless indicator will no longer come on. I reverted back to stock D-Link firmwares but am still unable to get my wireless to work. The settings indicate that it is enabled, but the indicator never comes on, and there is never any transmission of data. Possibly the problem is caused by a mistake I made during the firmware updates. But there are others who have reported somewhat (thought not exactly) similar issues. See:
DIR-615 C1 - revert r16454 to r16214 killed wireless
http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=547486

Someone in that thread seems to suggest that this might occur if the latest DD-WRT firmware is "too large" for the DIR-615. The analysis of folks in that thread so far suggests that the firmware overwrites part of the "board_config" that includes basic default wifi instrucitons or something. I don't know about these things myself.

But wanted to steer folks with rev C1 away from this particular release until someone who knows more about it, can clarify or test further.

Regards,

Phil.

Thanks for pointing this out. I have updated the guide with a warning for now. Yes, it's pretty clear that something is wrong. The builds for DIR-615 are usually 3.4 MB. This one for Rev. C is 3.8 MB.

FOLLOW AT YOUR OWN RISK! I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR ROUTER!

Here's what to do:

1. Download: https://dl.dropbox.com/s/wcweio7b4tyee3d/board_config?dl=1

2. Download http://portableapps.com/apps/development/frhed_portable

This is a portable hex editor, meaning it will install to a folder you specify, no registry entry or other settings. When you're done with it, you can just delete the folder. Browse to your desire installation location when presented by the installer.

3. Open FrhedPortable and go File > Open and select the board_config you downloaded. Note that the doesn't and shouldn't have an extension. Just leave it as it is.
If you never used a hex editor before you might feel a bit overwhelmed by all the weird stuff. Don't worry. Scroll to the bottom.

4. You have two columns. At the end in the right (smaller) one you have something like "[...]yyyyyC1.y00:00:00:00:00:00yy00:00:00:00:00:00.yy0x10.yyyy[...]"
What interests us are the two 00:00:00:00:00:00 series. Everything else before, between and after MUST remain the same.
The first 00:00:00:00:00:00 needs to be replaced with the MAC address of your LAN/Wireless card, while the second with the one for you WAN card (port). These should be printed on a sticker on the back of your router.
Move the cursor over the first 0 in the first series and typing the corresponding MAC as it appears on the sticker, with : in between the 2-character pairs. Then move the cursor over the first 0 in the second series and do the same for the WAN MAC.
When done, go File > Save, and then close.

5. Upload the file somewhere online where you can get a direct download link from. You can also use SCP to get the file onto the router.

6. Flash the router from the emergency interface with the r16214 build from ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2011/02-17-11-r16214/dlink-dir615c1/dir615c1-factory-to-ddwrt-firmware.bin

6. Get Putty Portable http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/putty_portable. This is based on the same principle like the Hex editor. Install anywhere and delete when done.

7. Run Putty, put the IP address of your router, select Telnet and connect. Input username as "root" , regardless of what account you use for web interface. The password is the same as the one you use on the web interface.

8. Once connected type: cd /tmp/

9. You should now be in /tmp/ directory. Type: wget -O board_config http://replace.this.with.your.download.link.to.board_config

If you use SCP copy the file in /tmp/ and you don't need to use wget.

10. Type:  dmesg|less
You should see something like:
[ 0.410000] Creating 8 MTD partitions on "ar7100-nor0":
[ 0.410000] 0x000000000000-0x000000030000 : "RedBoot"
[ 0.420000] 0x000000030000-0x0000003e0000 : "linux"
[ 0.430000] 0x0000000fe000-0x0000003b0000 : "rootfs"
[ 0.430000] mtd: partition "rootfs" must either start or end on erase block boundary or be smaller than an erase block -- forcin
g read-only
[ 0.440000] mtd: partition "rootfs" set to be root filesystem
[ 0.450000] 0x0000003b0000-0x0000003e0000 : "ddwrt"
[ 0.460000] 0x0000003e0000-0x0000003f0000 : "nvram"
[ 0.460000] 0x0000003f0000-0x000000400000 : "FIS directory"
[ 0.470000] 0x0000003f0000-0x000000400000 : "board_config"
[ 0.480000] 0x000000000000-0x000000400000 : "fullflash"

Only count the entries with the long hexadecimal values like 0x0000003b0000-0x0000003e0000 and count with RedBoot being 0. This means linux=1, rootfs=2, etc., board_config=6.

11. (Optionally, you can do:  dd if=/dev/mtd6ro of=board_config2 in order to backup your current board_config. Use SCP to copy the board_config2 off your router, because it will disappear on reboot.)

Otherwise, type:  dd if=board_config of=/dev/mtd6 (replace the 6 after mtd if your board_config is something other than 6).

12. Go to interface and reboot router.

Alternative:
if the dd command does not fix the wireless, do it all again until that step and try:  mtd -f write /tmp/board_config board_config

I know. Unfortunately this is not for the average user :( If you don't understand something feel free to ask and I'll try to help.

Hi, i have upgraded my firmware to dd-wrt to my DIR-615 E4, but now i want to go back to stock firmware, but i can't!...

I have done theese steps:

Quote
Unplug the router's power cord and wait 20 seconds.
You should see a white page with a Browse and Upload button.

I can ping 192.168.0.1
From linux, i can access Emergency Room from Chromium, but i can not from Firefox 4. In chromium, i can select the firmware .BIN file, but when i click the "Upload firmware" button, the page get stuck, no loading nor loaded page, and chromuim status bar says "loading 0%".

From Windows, ping to 192.168.0.1 is responding, but i can not access Emergency Room neither with IE 8, Firefox 3.6, Safari, Chrome!

What i'm doing wrong?

Thanks in advise!

From your description I believe the modem is set to accept your computer's wired adapter's MAC address. I don't remember if the D-Link stock firmware allows forging the WAN MAC address, but DD-WRT does.

Now, about the emergency room problem. Why do you want to access it? Do you want to flash DD-WRT? If yes, try to do it from D-Link's stock firmware, under maintainance > firmware upgrade. Just be careful, do not flash the latest r16454 for C1, because it has problems and your wireless will stop working. Use r16214 from ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2011/02-17-11-r16214/dlink-dir615c1/dir615c1-factory-to-ddwrt-firmware.bin

DIR-615d's LAN has stopped working with r16754 (the latest one), so I had to revert back to r16454. Thankfully wireless was still on, so I tried finding some LAN options in the firmware settings but I couldn't find anything that could have caused it to stop responding. I made sure no changes to the settings were made during the firmware upgrade.

I think the E5 is only for the Brazilian market and it isn't very different from E4. Is your current factory firmware in Portuguese and what's its version? 5.11?

Hello, what revision of dd-wrt is most stable for DIR-615 E4? I do not need options and features, just stability and speed!
Best regards!

The router database has recommended some less stable builds, including SP1 and 13064 (10/10/09) build. I suggest using the builds that are recommended here or in Redhawk's announcement above, rather than the ones in the router database. SP1 is full of bugs, and while 13064 is not nearly as bad, some are reporting connection issues fairly regularly. Sometimes the router database also has had the wrong build type. The router database is being worked on improve the recommendations. Do not skip over reading the install wiki for your router just because you got the files from the router database. You need to KNOW what to do with those files. The wiki usually has the right builds for particular routers. READ THE WIKI!

« Reply #163 on: April 17, 2011, 05:47:30 AM »

Okay guys, I'm at a stumping point.  I picked up a 615 C1.  It had factory firmware 3.01 on it.  I installed the dd-wrt firmware indicated on the dd-wrt website (14896).  After doing that, my PPPoE WAN connection kept on dropping out every 2 minutes or so.  Even when up, I can't access anything on the web.  My browser indicates a message that it can find Domain Names, even though DNS addresses show up in the dd-wrt status.  So, I then reverted back to factory firmware 3.01.  Noticed my WAN connection still dropping out.

During this time I was swapping it out with my old faithful - DIR-604, just to verify WAN/Modem/Internet connection and everything was fine, so I knew I had issues with the DIR-615 and nothing else.

Thinking I may have had a problem with the WAN connection, and I may have to junk the router, I upgraded the factory firmware to 3.13NA.  The WAN connection was then solid (using PPPoE).  It hasn't dropped out since using this version.

I then scanned the posts here, and noticed Skello mentioning r16214.  So I gave it a whirl, thinking that maybe this newer version has fixed the PPPoE connection issue.  So I reverted back again to factory 3.01, then flashed on r16214.  Still the same result, my PPPoE connection just drops, and when up for the limited amount of time, I can't access anything on the web.

At this point, for sheeats-and-giggles, I flashed back to factory 3.13NA.  Again I had a 100% reliable WAN connection, and I decided to flash to r16214, without reverting to factory 3.01.  But the results have been the same.  I don't have a reliable PPPoE WAN connection.

So now I'm back with 3.13NA, and typing this post.  Has anyone had success with PPPoE WAN using a DIR-615 C1 dd-wrt flashed router?  Is there a known bug (well to all but me it would seem), or is there a setting that I'm possibly missing in one of the menu screens?

In summary:
flashed first from 3.01 to r14896 - PPPoE WAN issues
flashed from r14896 back to 3.01 - PPPoE WAN issues
flashed from 3.01 to 3.13NA - router stable, no PPPoE WAN issues
flashed from 3.13NA to 3.01 to r16214 - PPPoE WAN issues
flashed from r16214 back to 3.13NA direct - router stable, no PPPoE WAN issues
flashed from 3.13NA direct to r16214 - PPPoE WAN issues
flashed from r16214 back to 3.13NA (currently) - router stable, no PPPoE WAN issues

Verified that internet connection is stable during all this, and issue is solely the DIR-615, I used my old DIR-604 router.

One other thing that I noticed, especially the later times I flashed, was that the router seemed to retain my factory settings.  After I reverted from dd-wrt back to the factory firmware, I didn't have to configure the router, or even set a password.  It seemed to remember me settings, which I found odd.

Sorry for the long post, but any help is appreciated.  I'd like to get dd-wrt working so I can monitor bandwidth usage, so I have my fingers crossed that someone can shed some light.

Thanks.

Supposedly the database lists builds that have been tested and found stable on those router models. There are many newer test builds available for download, a lot of which are buggy. I've been using the build recommended on the database for my router since it was released nearly a year ago. It's been flawless ever since. But you take a chance every time you update your firmware. It's your choice.
