Disable IR LEDs
« on: November 16, 2016, 05:14:31 PM »

Has anyone figured out a way to disable the IR LEDs other than just putting tape over them (which generally results in enough scattered IR light to still mess up the image)?  A while back I started to take mine apart to see if I could unplug them or clip a wire, but they really didn't design it to be taken apart.  I wish they'd add this to the firmware since several other models have the option.

No, it isn't an option.

These indoor cams don't usual have the option.  (5222L,5010L,etc)

The 2230,2210L,2132L (not my favorite model) do.

I also had some light getting through or reflecting back in when I taped up my 2630L. Like you mention, it's probably hard wired to come on.

What FW version are you using?

From the user manual:
"Select a method of switching between day and night modes:
• Auto: This will automatically switch between day and night
mode based on the amount of ambient light. When there is
enough light, day mode will be used. When it gets dark, the
camera will switch to night mode.
You can use the Light Sensor Sensitivity drop-down menu to
determine how sensitive the camera’s light sensor will be and
how quickly your camera will respond to changes in ambient
light.
• Manual IR: The camera will only switch between day and night
mode when requested to through the Live Video interface on
the mydlink website or mobile app.
Always Day Mode: The camera will always use day mode.
• Always Night Mode: The camera will always use night mode.

Try setting Always Day Mode. This may shut off the IR lEDs at night...

eebclee wants to run the camera in IR mode without the IR LEDs.  They will turn off in DAY mode (unless that DAY MODE/IR light issue is infecting the latest F/W here.

In other models such as the 9 series and the 5 series (at least the ones I own) you can disable the IR lights by running the cam in day mode only. You can also disable the power on and flashing activity lights as well. For the latter you need to go into the Windows GUI.

Yes the 5 and 9 series have the disable IR LED feature. D-Link may have removed it on this model and only activates if Nightmode is enabled.

I just updated the firmware, so it's the latest -- I keep hoping they will add this option.  And yes, I want night mode without the IR LEDs on -- if you have an indoor camera pointed out a window, the IR LEDs blind night vision.  (The DCS-2630L is otherwise a great camera to set in my kitchen window and view my entire front porch.)  My other three DLink cameras can do this.  At this point I'd be happy to snip a wire if I could find the right wire, but as I say the thing really isn't trivial to take apart.

Why not get another model camera that has the feature for the window configuration your needing to use it in?

Do they have a different one with 180 degree FoV, 1920 x 1080 or better resolution, and IR LEDs that can be disabled?

The 2210L comes close.  170 fov if I remember correctly. Can disable led. Has speaker.  1080, 2mp. No gremlin noises in the audio.  Very good for a room. Not so much for long distance. No anti warping.  Camera runs cool.

The spec sheet says only 118 diagonal, 103 horizontal.
