Unable to connect with PS4
« on: April 12, 2018, 01:36:56 PM »

Hi,
I purchased the router the other day on Amazon.
All seemed fine until I tried to connect to the router via my PS4. I get unable to connect maybe because the signal is too weak.
I think thats a general message and not actually relative to my situation.
I tried with smart connect and without on 2.5ghz with different bands.
The only was I can get a connection is if I switch of the security leaving the wireless network without a password.
Every other device I have in the house works fine, iMac, iPads, iPhones, Huawei P8 and Roku Streaming Stick Plus.
So I think there is an issue with the WPA/WPA2-Personal security protocol on one or both sides.
Any ideas?

Cheers

Having this exact same issue. Purchased the router yesterday and had no issues connecting my PS4 to the router right out of the box. The issue only started happening when I upgraded to the latest firmware (1.10). Like OP, I have no problems connecting my PS4 when I disable WPA, and all of my other devices have no issues connecting to the router.

Please try the FW update, do a factory reset then setup from scratch.

Try setting manual channel to 1, 6 or 11. Any unused channel on 5Ghz.
Does the PS consoles connect to 5Ghz. If PS4, I believe they support 5ghz radios..

Disable IPv6 on the router, set local only connection.

What Mfr and model# modems do you two have from your ISP??
What prior router mfr and model# were you using before the 882? Was the console working then?

Process a downgrade to 1.01B02 and see if the PS4 will connect on WPA2. I'm looking at a wireless negotiation issue between the devices because of the new KRACK WPA vulnerability implementation on version 1.10. Check to see if the PS4 is updated to the latest firmware.

When I first switched the router on there was a message straight away in the GUI to update the firmware. Which I did, but it wasn't the latest version, maybe 1.04 but it wouldn't connect either. Then the other day I noticed another firmware upgrade which I tried which brought the fw to 1.1 and still it doesn't connect.
I'll try downgrading and report back.

Least try this process to downgrade the FW:
Emergency Recovery Mode

Same goes for anyone else encountering a error message during downgrade.

i'm getting an "upgrade failed" when using the 1.01b firmware to downgrade.

Thanks FN. It's definitely has to do with the new PS4 5.53 update. I flashed my router to DD-WRT and it still didn't work. Here's how I finally got it to work:

1. Enter PS4 Safe Mode (long hold on power button)
2. Rebuilt database
3. Do not select "Test connection" in the PS4 Network Screen (this will kick out the connection each time it tries to re-establish an IP address due to the WPA handshake issue).
4. After a minute or two, select "View Connection" and you should see it connected.

The important thing to remember is DO NOT "Test Connection" after you rebuild the database. There seems to be an issue with the test connection function.

So much wasted time; my only consolation is that DD-WRT is working great on 882!

SO this process is all for the PS console?
Glad to know that it wasn't FW.
Thanks for posting. Hope it helps others.

Yes, it's all a PS4 issue; also need to set Wifi channel to either 1 or 11 (see Linksys threads).

so i havent used my ps4 since the router firmware upgrade and can confirm that i can't connect to wifi with it now.

This is completely the router firmware upgrade that caused this since the ps4 wifi and everything related to it was working before that.  lets get this fixed asap please dlink

Process a downgrade to 1.01B02 and see if the PS4 will connect on WPA2. I'm looking at a wireless negotiation issue between the devices because of the new KRACK WPA vulnerability implementation on version 1.10. Check to see if the PS4 is updated to the latest firmware.

my ps4 was not on 5.53 latest firmware.  i used the rebuild database trick posted above and then just waited for it to connect.  its now downloading and installing the latest 5.53 firmware.  so issue was not with latest ps4 firmware specifically

//edit 2... and now that i've installed the firmware update and rebooted the ps4, i'm back to no connection.

//edit 3 - spoke with dlink support. they've had multiple reports of this issue with the ps4 after the firmware update and their engineers have been notified.
