Unable to login into Admin account on router after reset
« on: May 22, 2020, 03:07:50 AM »

My WiFi was being used by a neighbor (who had visited once and I had given the password). When I discovered he was continuing to do so, I tried accessing the router using the old passwords I had recorded but they all did not work.

Then I physically reset my DIR-825, but after that I was not able to login into the Admin account.

I tried:
Admin / (blank)
Admin / Admin
admin / (blank)
admin / admin
and previous passwords that I had for the account.

But the page at: http://192.168.0.1/wizard/index-wizard.html?redirect_id=2c363342050bdccb28189667a3089bf7#/info keeps showing:
"Wrong username/password or the session is expired"

I am able to connect to the internet through it though - the WiFi password is one which came by default from the ISP - a hex string.

But I cannot figure out the router password so I am unable to configure the name, see the logs, block the neighbor, etc... :)

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Disconnect the DIR router from the ISP modem. Disconnect all other devices from the router accept 1 wired PC.
Use IE11, or Firefox. Set compatibility mode in IE11.

Press the reset button on the back of the router for 10 seconds then release. Use one of the browser and navigate to 192.168.0.1. A setup wizard should be presented here. You should be able to cancel the wizard and get to the log in screen or it may take you to the home page. If the log in screen, admin and no password(blank) should all thats needed. Click on the log in button.

Be sure to clear out any old browser caches or save password profiles.

What is the mfr and model# of the ISP modem the router is connected too?
