Title: Compatibality between Webstar DPX2203C and Dlink DIR-601
Post by: jolphil on August 12, 2011, 07:11:17 AM
Hello,
I will have to set up my sister in laws wireless router to a Bright House(TWC) internet and Bright house voip..
What I would like to know if others set this combination without issues or is their a compatibility problem?
I would appreciate if there are any router configuration things to look forward to..
Her modem is a single internet modem and voip box combined(see subject).. Besides the cable input there are two jacks for telephone and one for ethernet plus power..
I am only guessing but I presume that my router will have to come from the ethernet to the WAN port or one of the LAN ports..Can some one clarify how this should be wired and if any changes I need to make in the Routers software? Presently I have it working from my house  from my modem(without voip the feature) into the WAN port and it works fine with WPA2 encription..
Any help or tips will be appreciated..Thank You
jolphil

This shouldn't be a big problem. Yes the 601 router needs to be connected to the cable modem using the WAN port on the back of the 601 router to the ISP modem. Be ware that some modems have built in routers themselves and can cause some connection issues. It's preferred to have an ISP modem that doen't have a built in router however not everyone can do this, especially with having phone or VoIP service packaged with Internet services.

Some tips:

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?
Turn off QoS options.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? WEP, WPA or WPA2? Preferred is WPA2. Auto TPIK and AES.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area?

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

Thanks FN
That was quick and to the point.. I am appreciative of the tips on the router settings to..They are much needed by this network novice.I must admit though I will strain to find all those tips in the software..I have no idea what most mean..Just letters to me..
You have been most helpful and If I get into trouble later when I actually install the router I will give you a call again..
Thanks again
jolphil :)

All of those tips are found on the routers web page by logging in using a web browser and going to 192.168.0.1.

Let us know how it goes.

One more question..By the above quote I assume you mean the DNS address for my ISP (Bright House)?
If so I think I got all the tips covered and will install in a few weeks
Thanks Again,
