link aggregation

(1/2) > >>

RC179:
If I have two DXS-3400-24TC and "stack" them, can I create an aggregated link of 2 ports with the ports on two different units?

In other words, is it a truly, logically a single switch. Or is it two interconnected switches with a single management interface?

FurryNutz:
I would presume it would be the later. There still two separate switches with separate IPs I believe.

RC179:
Ya, my confusion come from the documentation saying they can be a "physical stack", it always says "physical", which makes me think it's not a real logical stack (logical single switch). It also emphasizes single IP management, which, again, is not the same as a single switch.

I just need to be 100% sure because it's being suggested as a less expensive alternative, which I'm all in favor of if it can do what's needed, but the HA/FT of the system is reliant on being able to aggregate across stack members.

FurryNutz:
I would contact D-Link support and ask about this to be sure. They will know.  ;)

RC179:
Support won't talk to me because it's pre sales. But I did call their sales people and he got an engineer on the phone, and Dave says yes it is a single logical switch that will do LAG across the switches.

So I have my answer, but I still feel uneasy.
