Title: Recovering from lightning damage
Post by: mysoft on April 04, 2013, 09:42:29 PM
ok, this is my scenery
i had a cable going trough to my neighboard since we plays lot of network games...
but this night his end got hit by a lighning that managed to reach here trough the network cable
damn i forgot to unplug his cable :(

so the router is working partially now...
i mean the wireless is still work, i can access and configure it
trough wireless, and alll

however seems that it can't make connections trough cabled network anymore
i plug it on my computer and it keeping going between cable connected/cable not connected

for ALL network ports, including the WAN
i know that it fried one or two protection resistors as you can see some dark smoke on the metal above them....

i also know that the communication is working... because
my modem is so stubborn to keep the cable connection conected
that i can actually still use the internet trough wireless (routed from my modem)
altough it works very slow, because it only transfer data during the second that tha cable
is connected...

is there anything that i can do? like block/disconnected the burned down ports 4... maybe 3?
and have it working with wireless+2/3 ports?

or something that i can do to even fix those, maybe with some schematics i can
figure out if something else got burned out, or if i need to solder where there was the resistors
(because i doubt i will be able to replace them with that tiny space :P)

so any toughts? i would like to keep this one working for a little longer
until i can buy another one :)

Best bet would be to skrap the router and get a new.
