Difference between DNS-320 and DNS-320L?
« on: September 30, 2012, 01:46:22 AM »

Can't find the hardware specs for DNS-320L, does anyone know the difference between this model and DNS-320?

The "L" designation is given to D-Link's cloud-based hardware. The DNS-320 has a 800 MHz CPU, while the DNS-320L has a 1 GHz processor. The outer shell for the two units is also different, i.e. the DNS-320L is slightly larger.

Beside the processor speed, does it has more memory?

I seen the DNS-320L in Youtube, it's width is slimmer but height is taller and require HD handle to insert/remove the drive.

The D-Link USA website has data sheets for both products on the "Download" tab for each model.  The DNS-320L data sheet does not mention memory. Since this product is just rolling out in the USA,  I'm sure the full hardware specifications will reveal themselves soon enough.

Hmm, more information would have been ideal. I've ordered a second DNS 320, just found out about the L version today.

If you want to get a better idea of where the DNS-320L is going, go to the D-Link USA website and compare the DNS-320L and DNS-325 using the product "Compare" function. The DNS-320 is no longer listed as an available product (for comparison). The DNS-325 is similar in many ways to the DNS-320. The primary delta here, i.e. "Cloud" functionality, is what sets this new unit apart from the DNS-320/325.

I reckon the DNS-325 also got cloud capability with FW 1.03. The 320 was denied that apparenltly due to lacking hardware capabilities (CPU, RAM).
At least mydlink Cloud and Surveillance Center are now installable packages for 325 and indeed I have used the mydlink Cloud part of it.

The DNS-320L/345 also have mydlink mobile apps to remotely control and read/write to/from the ShareCenter from a phone or tablet. I'm not sure if this functionality will port to the DNS-325. ???

Yes, that also works with DNS-325, assuming mydlink Cloud add-on has been enabled on 325 NAS.

Although I hope this is an oversight, performing a "Compare" between the two products on the D-Link website reveals that the remote control capability is available on the DNS-320L/345 and not the DNS-325.  :-\

I just found out that the 320L can do "NAS to USB"-Backup (see http://www.dlink.com/us/en/home-solutions/share/sharecenter/-/media/Consumer_Products/DNS/DNS%20320L/Manual/DNS_320L_A1_Manual_v1_0_EN_US.pdf page 216). If I remember right then this was asked many times for the 320, 323 and 325. So is the 320L the first D-Link-Device that can really do it without 3rd-party-applications?

@ JavaLawyer
But YOU are the "insider". Is my statement (the DNS-320L is the first D-Link device with "NAS to USB"-Backup functionality) true?

Btw I found out that the DNS-320L uses the same CPU (Marvel 88F6-LG02 88F6702-A1) as the Synology DS-112j and has the same amount of 16bit-DDR2-RAM as it but the D-Link-Device is waaaaayyy cheaper.

I believe all previous ShareCenter iterations were limited to USB > NAS backup.

D-Link is moving in the right direction. The remote control functionality and integration with mydlink will be a boon to ShareCenter owners with supported devices.
