You can also try cloning your pc's mac address under internet | manual configure.  And see if that changes anything.  I've gotten a different IP address that way before.  I was usually the same as the one if my modem was plugged directly to my pc.

Switched back to the old linksys wrt 150n and got 28 ms ping 29 d and 5.5 up wireless.  Going to take the 4500 to a friend tomorrow who has the same isp but different modem.

I turned the 4500 into an AP but did not change the IP in the config. I used the linksys router to hook up the 4500. Connected to the 4500 wireless and got 18 d and 5.7 up.

When the connection was wired the only network that showed up was the linksys, with the cable connected to the 4500 to the computer, is that how it should be?

Change the routers IP address to something like 192.168.0.50. Then LAN wire a PC to the back of the 4500 and test the speed. Still slower this way?

ISP modem>Linksys Router>DGL-4500 in AP mode<>Wired LAN PC. Speedtest.net on PC. Ensure any Linksys features are disabled like firewall or rules and such while testing.

I changed the IP and tested with the pc wired and was 28-31 d and 5.5 up.  So with the speeds where they should be in ap mode does that mean that there is an issue between the 4500 and the isp moden?

That will be the next step.  I was going to give it to a friend to test but forgot it in the car.

I got the router back from my friend.  He has a motorola SB 6141 or SB 6121 he wasn't sure which, I'm waiting for him to check. Both of these are just modems with no routeing features.  He had no issue with the download speed getting 20-25 mb down on a 30mb connect.  He said his upload speed was lower than it should have been. The modem I have is the motorola SBG 6580 that can be used as a router but it is currently in bridged mode.

When he gets back to me with the model of his modem I'm going to call Time Warner and try to get straight to a level 3 tech.

Ok, keep us posted. Means that the 4500 is working and maybe some adjustments maybe needed once the ISP reviews your cable line signals. Keep us posted.  ;)

So Time Warner tech support said that the router needs to be configured by D-Link support to be compatible with the motorola.  Is there something that D-Link can configure over the phone?

There isn't any networking configuration to make it compatible. All D-Link routers are already compatible with the cable network connection between the router and any ISP modem. It's up tot he ISP or the Modem Mfr to ensure it's compatible and working with routers. D-Link ensures that the routers work up to the connection of ISP modems I presume and nothing beyond that. If the 4500 is working on your friends other 6 series modems and it's not working well on the one 6580, I presume the problem is with the modem.

Can you barrow one of your friends modems and install on your system? Ask to see if he can swap with you as a test? If not I would try a 6121 or 6141 or 6180. I all cept the 41 and each one of them works great with my 4500. I haven't had any experience with this 6580... :-\

That's what i figured.  I guess I'll call them back and tell them D-Link said it was their issue.  If that doesn't work I'll see if they will send me one of their other modems.  My friend just let me know he has a SB 5101.
