I have problem with the 2.4GHz connection
« on: May 18, 2020, 07:45:41 PM »

Yes, I am still using this Router.
HW=A1 FW1.20

I have problem with the 2.4GHz connection. Most of the home smart devices are connected with the 2.4GHz.

Everyday, all the devices, using the 2.4Gz will lost the connection with the network. The signal is strong and the devices are not far away from the router.

Not doing a thing, after an hour, everything will be back to normal. It happens at least one tine everyday.

I have problem with this router since day 1 and it was an expensive router, very disappointed.

I am looking into a new router.

Are you using v1.20 or v1.21? I found bad connection rates with v1.21...

Wireless Configurations
Links>Wireless Installation Considerations and Managing Signal Congestion and Good Neighbour Policy
  • Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Ensure that different SSID names are used between each WiFi 2.4/5Ghz radios. Can be anything and not something that's already in use by any neighbouring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
  • What wireless modes are you using?
  • For routers with Smart Connect Technology , try disabling this feature and test. Under Wireless.
  • 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz routers: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz and single mode N or AC on 5Ghz?
  • Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
  • Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear. 13 for EU regions. Try channel 48 or 149 on 5Ghz.
  • What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto TPIK and AES.
  • What wireless devices do you have connected?
  • Ensure any devices with WiFi adapter drivers are updated.
  • Any 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz cordless house phones or WiFi APs near by that maybe causing interferences?
  • Any other WiFi routers in the area that maybe causing interferences? Link> Use a WiFi Scanner to find out. How many?
  • Try setting Medium or Low power output settings and test again Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Also having similar issue, 2.4ghz wifi disconnects all devices, I have mainly smart home devices on the 2.4g. And when I try to reconnect with the password from say my phone or laptop. It says the password is incorrect.

I can only resolve this by power cycling the router. I have turned off smart connect due to some smart home devices only supporting 2.4g and am using firewire 1.20 version

DIR-890L   HW:A1   FW:1.20

Can someone please help. this is very frustrating to have all your smart lights and switches just disconnect.

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Have you deleted the wifi profile on your phone or laptop then have them reconnect?

You can re-enable smart connect once you have your 2.4Ghz devices connected and use the same SSID name as you have set for the 2.4Ghz radio.

sorry for the late response.
I have an update on this.

The everyday drop connection on the 2.4GHz has stopped so far. I did not see any of my Dlink cam or other smart device disconnected.

HW A1 FW1.20
Smart connect disable
2.4G at ch6 g/n mode channel width 20MHz
5G at CHh48 n/ac mode channel width auto 20/40
2nd 5G at CH157 n/ac mode n/ac mode channel width auto 20/40

I set everything static.

I noticed if I changed the channel width to auto 20/40MHz. It will happen against at the 2.4GHz.

So if anyone is have the same issue on frequent 2.4GHz drop connection. You may try this out.

Ok, thanks for letting us know.

Enjoy.  ;)

I had same kind of problems, with this router and my new one.
On both occasions it was remedied by lowering the 2.4GHz channel width to 20.
