UPnP AV 1.06 issues
« on: January 01, 2009, 11:12:21 AM »

Since upgrading to 1.06 i have been having issues with UPnP AV. On my PS3 which worked fine on 1.05 i get a DNLA error when using the root option on the DNS-323. The Xbox 360 shows the DNS-323 but when i access it it says there are no files. If i set the DNS-323 UPnP AV server to a specific directory then the PS3 can access those files fine. The Xbox 360 still shows no files though.

Even after clicking Refresh on the 'UPnP AV SERVER" section of the DNS?

They removed the refresh option.  You can't do that on 1.06.

It's still there ... clicking on it displays a new window that shows the progress.

Well i am having alittle more success today. I decided to check the DNS-323 on my PS3 again this morning and it now seems to be working as before (FW 1.05). Maybe it takes some time after doing a refresh for the PS3 to get the new file list? I tried it again on my Xbox 360 which shows the DNS 323 and it shows all my directories but it dosent find any files anywhere. When i get home from work im going to try and shorten the directory path and see if that has any effect on the Xbox 360 problem.

I had a similar issue then I struck on the idea of creating a NEW directory for my Movies (named it "Movie") then I reset the location to "Volume_1/Movie" in the Folder location (that is, actually browsed to the new directory), then placed a couple of avi's in there, then logged back in and clicked "Refresh". Shortly thereafter my XBOX360 displayed the files.

Hope this helps.

It's looking more and more like my Xbox 360 problem is a limititaion on the Xbox 360 side. Either it has problems with shorter directory paths then the PS3 does, or it has issues with folders containing alot of files but i have been able to successfully play media on my Xbox 360.

Same problems here. What's up with 1.06?

I have UPnP AV turned on and my 360 can't even see it. I am using a wireless adapter on my 360 which might affect performance but I should still be able to see the DNS-323 at least.

Seems like I say this every few days :).

Steps to take to try and resolve;

1. Reset your DNS-323 to defaults. This will clear any UPNP Index file on the device.
2. Log back into your DNS-323 and go to the UPNP AV section, Enable UPNP AV server and Apply.
3. Select your directory or ROOT and Click the Refresh button.
4. Depending on the amount of data you have this could take some time however you should be able to see some data almost instantly.
5. PS3/Xbox360, make sure you are connected to the internet and have the latest updates. You will not see the DNS-323 without them. Make sure all OPTIONAL updates are installed on the Xbox.
6. Change the directory to a folder with only a couple files and refresh. See if these files are accesible on your console. You could be having a corrupt file issue in your media library.
7. If all else fails reset your ps3/xbox360 to defaults and try again.

If you have done all these steps and still have no luck, please post your network information here, IP Address of Router/Scheme of network, subnet, ip of devices. Anything you can provide to replicate helps.

Sounds like a lot of people are fighting with this issue!  And from what I can tell - the solution provided by D-Link does not work!  However the solution provided by Jaybee seems to fix it.

Previously I had shared out the Root and for the longest time could not get the sytsem to update any new files and it even had problems playing exisiting files.  I did have LOTS of files like pictures, videos and mp3's so maybe thats the problem.

In anycase, I did as Jaybee suggested, created a folder called Movie and selected that to share out and then Refreshed and right away my media player picked up the new files and folders.........

Done that listed above, and have only been able to get it to work with a few files in the directory, but not with my entire library.

However it works fine on my XBMC XBOX 1..

Network is 192.168.1.0/24,
Router = 192.168.1.1/24, Linksys WRT54GS running Tomato firmware 1.23
DNS-323 = 192.168.1.130/24
xbox 360 = 192.168.1.101/24

Folder structure starts with a Media directory with Movies, Photos, and Music subdirecties...

If you need a sniffer trace of the xbox 360 trying to access the files, let me know...
