Have a look at Alt-F project. It offers much more features and a newer linux kernel. It allows package installation. Everything what DLink has left.

Exactly! Yesterday I changed my firmware to the Alt-F, and what a difference! My DNS-323 just turned it self much more useful!

Can you install ALT-F while maintaining existing data? I don't have anywhere to do another back up and don't want to risk loosing my files...

If your data is important to you, maintain a separate physical backup of your data: Data Backup vs. Redundancy

I'm always amused by questions like this - in a nutshell, if you value the data, you back it up and don't f@#$ with the system - if you don't back it up, you have no one to blame but yourself when you lose it, and if you f%^& with the system without backing it up, well you're just begging for trouble - aren't you?

RAID1 is for disk redundancy - NOT data backup - don't confuse the two.
