Title: Connection problems
Post by: MacRoy on August 16, 2013, 01:07:19 PM
Having just replaced my D-Link DIR-865L to a D-Link DIR-857, and the reason was that I need Custom Dynamic DNS.
But I have exactly the same problem with my router, just like zarkuon has with the "www" and "HTTPS" I do not reach my Synology server.
I do not use the wireless connection.

I've tried with all the firmware and done factory restore but no solution.

I have Hardware Version: A1 Firmware Version: 1.04 right now.
When is there a solution for this?
I live in Sweden (Europe).

What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
Have you attempted to set up and use the Virtual Server option?
Do other connections work to other devices? Different NAS or a PC with access?

This maybe just a configuration issue. I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and see if there is additional configuration help with this.

Hi MacRoy,

what exactly is happening when you don't reach your Synology NAS?
Are you familiar with the command line? Could you post the results of a ping to your Synology NAS?

This has nothing to do with this. I use exactly the same settings on my Netgear and it works like clockwork. I also borrowed a D-Link DIR-655 and it works well, but not at all with the D-Link DIR-857, so the problem lies rather in the firmware! Would it not be better if the D-Link corrected the problems that users have, and arranged a functioning router? Or is it someone who claims to have a fully functioning DIR-857 router?

If so, I'd love to know this, and hopefully D-Link, or?

Sincerely

MacRoy

Does the NAS require or need loopback services? Not sure if the 857 has this or not...

Hi MacRoy,
I totally agree with you that it would be best to get the perfect firmware from d-link! Nevertheless, in the meantime I try to get the best out of the firmware we have today.

In fact, I do have some devices in my home network working like a clockwork. I very much like devices doing what they are supposed to and keeping effort away from me instead of demanding my time.

But, since we are discussing here, some devices are not of that kind.    :-\

I tried to approach your problems on a technical level, since this is the level I am working on and we might be  capable to achieve changes.

I'm afraid, that D-Link doesn't care. But I do and I am willing to try to help you. Can you spot any configuration differences between the DIR-655 and the DIR-857? Would you mind sharing details of your network topology?

Regards,
nestolea

Any status on this?  ???

Maybe a Raspberry Pi DNS server will be needed here. I've seen others use this device to help with custom DNS service needs.
