Help! Can't access log in page! Bricked?
« on: May 26, 2019, 09:17:15 AM »

Really afraid my DIR880L is brick. It just suddenly went to orange light flashing (longer on shorter off).

I tried dozens of times of Emergency Flashing http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=44909.msg163599#msg163599 procedures, sometimes cannot open the page 192.168.0.1, sometimes I can see the following Recovery page as below:

I selected the right bin file, which is 1.08 version, click upload. The bottom bar of IE shows Uploading (...0%), then the page becomes "page not found". Wait for half an hour, still nothing happens.

So over and over again trying emergency recovery, sometimes can't, sometimes can see the recovery page, but page goes "page not found" after click upload button. Is it completely bricked?

BTW, I can always ping 192.168.0.1 any time, no matter the recovery page shows up or not. And of course I am using ethernet from my PC to the LAN of 880L, my PC does not connect to any network even not to internet.  HW ver A1, FW ver was 1.08ww, I am in Canada.

Any help is much appreciated

What browser are you using?
Try IE11x32 or FireFox.
Try loading v1.02 version of FW.

Thanks for quick reply.I use IE11 on Win10.

Update: I can successfully upload the firmware, progress on screen 0% till finish, showing big red successful, one second later it shows again recovery mode page.

I tried three times, all same: recovery page, uploaded successful, back to recovery page. Endless circulation?

Above happened for FW1,08WW. I try 1.02 now, then update the post.

You can get it from here:
https://support.dlink.com/ProductInfo.aspx?m=DIR-880L

From that page, the lowest is 1.07. I will try that.

No there wasn't. See below for screen capture

So anyway I tried 1.07, same thing: uploading successful, then immediately goes back to recovery mode asking to upload firmware.

v1.02 is there. Select the drop down arrow and you'll see it.
So using FF or IE to send the .bin file to the router?

Anyway I googled and found the 1.02, and uploaded it. Still same thing: uploaded successfully and immediately goes to recovery mode again. Using IE11 on Win10.

Can you try FireFox browser? IF this fails as well, probably router is bad.  :-\

I will download FF and try it.

I also noticed, the orange power LED flashing. Upon emergency recovery, it is slow flashing. As soon as I press "upload" button, it is steady; back to slowing flashing when the progress is about 3%. This slowing flashing keeps that way all the way to the end "successful" and then recovery mode.

installed FireFox 67.0, uploaded 1.02, still same thing. Then on FF67.0, uploaded 1.08, still same thing. So I am stuck at the recovery mode forever, although everytime the upload seems successful. Any other suggestions before I ditch it? Than you for your time.

Ya, Sounds like the NVRAM portion of the router is hosed and not accepting the full download. I don't know of anything else you can do unfortunately.
I recommend that it needs to be replaced. We tried.  :-\
