Guest Network?
« on: August 06, 2013, 04:57:41 PM »

Installed this router on Saturday and so far it has been running great on both 2.4 and 5Ghz bands.  I have not had any issues with my ISP speed decreasing while Stream Boost is as active either.

I would like to know if D-Link is planning on adding a guest network function to this router though.  I do see that in the "Status" area of the UI there is a box that says "Guest" and has "No" filled in.  I do have friends and family that come over frequently and would like to give them an easy password to put in their devices and then turn off the guest network once they leave.  I've done this with my Netgear routers that way I can have a strong password on my main SSIDs that are always on.  I also disabled WPS since this router doesn't give you the option to disable the PIN function of it.

Either way I'm a huge Netgear fan but this router has me impressed since I never consider buying D-Link for my wireless routers.  That has definitely changed.

I would suspect that since the DGL series never had Guest Network features, that the 5500 will probably follow suite as well. This is a gaming router focused on gaming and streaming of media. Having Guest Network features could impact overall performance if used since Gusst Networks are not in side the management operation of QoS or Streamboost in this case..

Oh ok, I can understand that better now since in the past I have never setup anything on QOS for my guest networks either.  Probably because I can't.  For now I will just use what I got since StreamBoost is a great feature even if I can't have my guest networks.  Thanks for the quick reply.

You could possibly set up an additional wireless AP using a separate SSID and PW for Guest if you need as a suggestion.  ;)

Would defeat the purpose since they'll be on the same network.   Id recommend using a second router and double natting so visitors don't have access to your LAN.
