I have the DCS-936L camera. I have setup twice, updated firmware, installed, reinstalled, etc. Took the unit back and got a new one, all with the same issues. The camera works properly in live mode and records all clips to the SD card. I can view clips over the web from the SD with no problems. However, when I select a clip to view in the mydlink App, it just pulls up a black screen every time. It does the same on my iPad with mydlink plus.
My phone is an iPhone 7 Plus and my iPad is an newer Air 2.
I have installed and uninstalled the apps multiple times and have a pretty good idea how to get these things working, but I am at a loss here. It obviously has nothing to do with the SD card. I have tried two different cards both cameras recorded clips to them.
I called tech support and they told me they were going to try and recreate the problem, but I have not heard back.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

- What Hardware version is your DCS? Look at the sticker behind or under the camera.
- Link>What Firmware (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=47512.0) version is currently loaded? Found on the DCSs web page under status.
- What region are you located?
What Mfr and model is the main host router?
Is the black video happening while your at home connected to the LAN side?
What iOS versions do you have loaded?
Did you get a case number?
-
Thank you for the reply:
1. Hardware version for DCS-936 is "A".
2. Current Firmware is 1.02.01
3. Region: New York, USA
4. Router is a Verizon Fios-G1100
5. I did get a case number: C6965748
The black screen is happening both at home while connected to my LAN, and it also happens when away from home over LTE, or Wifi. Both have the same result. The video playback page shows the clips on the menu with the snapshot but when I hit play I just get a black screen. By the way, this is happening on the D-link Lite app on my iPhone 7 plus with the latest iOS version of 10.2 (14C92), and I am having the same issues on my iPad Air 2 also with the latest version of 10.2 (14C92).
I returned the original DCS-936L and exchanged it for a new one. I also bought a new microSD card. I had the exact same issues with both setups. Both the iPad/Iphone can live view the video, but the clips bring up a black screen.
I am able to successfully access the video clips from the SD card when I go into the SD management on the D-link website.
Thank you again.

I'll pass this along to D-Link with your case number. It sounds like that your live video is working and the clip video isn't. Maybe a app or combination of app and camera/SD issue. If live video is working then probably not much else troubleshooting to do here. :-\
What cell phone service do you use? ATT or T-Mobile?
What is the Brand and model of the SD card your using?
-
These D-Link cameras are easily the worst technology purchase I have ever made. They are absolutely USELESS when it comes to accurate motion detection. I have tried many hours of combinations on the two DCS-936L cameras I bought. It constantly gives me false alerts... probably 98% of the time. Even with a sensitivity lower that 10%. The motion area is a sham as well. I can set it up to only highlight the bottom of screen and it still goes off for areas in the top.
The APP is still broken as well. Tech support says they hope it gets addressed in an update, but it will not play back clips for any of my three cameras. I have tried the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and iPad air 2. I am very upset at D-Link quality.

Hello, I use Verizon as my cell service.
The Micro SD card is a ScanDisk UHS-I 32 GB. They work in all my other video applications, such as a Go Pro, my HD video Camera, etc.
Thank you.

I got word that this is under review with D-Link. Please be patient.
-
Thank you, I'll try. ;) If not solved soon I'll have to take the whole system back. A week left in the two week return policy.
-
Not sure if it can be. I'll check on this Monday as they need some time to test it in there labs. All see if maybe they can send you a direct update if they can find the issue fast enough.

Is there a lot of static/noise in the image? Is there a "denoise" setting? Try 30 or so if so.
-
Thanks for the response: I have been in and out of the settings 100 times and I have not seen anything for a "denoise" or "static" type of setting. The picture does seem to have a bit of static at times, like it is focusing, but it happens often, and there usually is no reason or change in light.
-
By "static/noise" - I mean lots of dots in the image... not clean... almost like the fuzz on old non-hdtv empty channels... that kind of fuzz...
I found the manual and saw no "denoise" setting that is available in other Dlink cameras.
I dont have this model, but the 936L produces a great image. I haven't tried any motion detection settings.
Are you able to post an image sample of what causes this false motion detection?
-
Yes, at times it will have a lot of dots in the image. Like it is refocusing. It does produce a great image during the day and life, but the motion detection has been extremely frustrating. I tried to attach an image in this forum but couldn't figure it out.

The following link has a video for what seems to happen all day on both cameras. There is a subtle change in lighting that triggers the motion. I have sensitivity at 30% which means it barely picks up actual human movement it is supposed to catch.

Hey Mike25,
We haven't been able to recreate the problem still. What version of the mydlink lite app do you currently have? 3.7.1 is the latest.
-
Hello, I have version 3.7.1 that was updated yesterday.
On the iPad mylink plus is also version 3.7.1. Same issue on both devices in both apps.

youtube says:
This video has been removed by the user.
Sorry about that.

This should work. I have attached two videos. One in night mode, one in day mode. I tried both to check and see if one works better. You can see the slight "refocus" in each clip that sets off the motion sensor.
My current sensitivity level is set a 30% which barely picks up movement close to the house, and does not pick up anything further towards the fences.

I see the slight light change.
I suspect any type of light change is going to set off the motion detection. (clouds, etc).
I have an outdoor cam - and it's been snowing there, and I have about 6 totals blocks in the image - and I am getting massive amounts of motion detection everytime a flake goes through the area.
The camera log file shows 600 since 5 hours ago.
629. 2017-01-28 18:12:55 MOTION STOPPED
630. 2017-01-28 18:12:54 IP CAMERA Received MOTION Trigger
I don't remember if that camera has PIR detection, but that might work better in your situation.
-
The DCS-936L does not have PIR detection from what I can tell. I'm not even sure what that is.
I do however have the DCS-2630L and it has PIR detection in the settings.
-
Is anyone else getting the black screen on playback on iOs devices? Or is this an isolated issue on my end?
-
Im going to update my iPhone to 10 today and see. I don't know if I'll be able to reproduce since I don't have this model camera or SD card.
-
Any update on this? I have tried a number of things and still have the same issues on all three cameras. I can view the feeds live, and access the clips from the video card on the web user interface. But playing back the clips from the D-link lite app just gives me a black screen. I have the two DCS-936L cameras and a DCS-2630L.
This isn't a firewall issue or something of that nature is it? It shouldn't be because I can view the live stream and access the clips from the web GUI. I am at such a loss and can't figure it out. I am using the latest iOS versions on both the iPad and Iphone 7 plus.
As you can see in the attached picture, the clips show up as they should on all cameras, but when you click on one it becomes a black screen. https://postimg.org/image/ux4uwl75j/
Thanks

Well I can't test this fully out. My camera doesn't have a SD slot. I see that there is a record button on the app. I just tried it. I see that it creates a video file under the iOS photo app. I can see the video there if I play it back.
I presume this maybe an issue with the app and the SD card storage and it's not playing the mp file correctly.
-
Anything new on iOS playback from phones? Is this supposed to be in an new app update? Is anyone else having this issue or are other iOS users able to play their clips back?
-
Haven't heard anything from D-Link. I got my 936L in however I believe it maybe defective as I can't get it to complete the installation process. The camera works and I can access the local LAN UI, just the MDL Lite app fails after it's associated with the main host routers WiFi. So I can't test the SD card issue.
-
Still having same issues. Tech support called me back and believes there is something corrupt in my particular account. I will be trying to create a new account and installing the camera and testing there.
Tech support was able to access the video playback from my SD card on an iOS device so they believe there is an issue with my current account. Will advise after testing.
-
Let us know how it goes. I got some info back about trying to get my 936L online. Will give it a try this evening after work.
-
D-link sent me an email today saying their development team wanted me to try something. They asked me to take any of the following (!@#$%) out of the password for my cameras. It wasn't a corrupt account, it was using one of these characters in each camera password.
THIS ACTUALLY WORKED! I am able to playback video on both my iPhone and iPad now the way it should on all cameras. It took over a month to get this resolved but my problem is fixed. You have to admit this is an extremely bizarre fix, but it worked for me.
-
Ah, those special characters.
Glad it's working now.
I got my 936L going to. Had to set open security on my router then walk the app set up. Then go in and change the security on the camera to use WPA2 and a PW. I have to figure out why normal process isn't working. ::)
