Title: DNS-323 is unresponsive after sitting overnight
Post by: StunPals on March 16, 2016, 09:58:17 AM
I recently had a failed HD and replaced it which appears to mirrored back up successfully. But since this every day when I go to access my mapped drive to the NAS it is not available. I can ping the device successfully and sometimes the web is available but others only ping works.

I have to restart the device by holding the power button but other times I have to pull the power. Once it reboots it seems to run fine for the day.

Firmware is v1.10 which has been on the device for years now without this issue.
Any suggestions?

What Mfr and model is the main host router?
Is the DNS getting a Dynamic IP address from the main host router? I recommend using a Static IP address ON the DNS set to 192.168.#.32 or .23.
Swap out LAN cables. Link> Cat6 is recommended. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAT6)[/li][/list]

Considering the age of these nas boxes I am wondering if you need to change the CMOS battery, they don't last for ever.

Thank you both for the replies.
The device does have a static IP and when the issue is occuring, strangely I can still ping it but can't go tot he web or access the files.

As for the battery I can't say its status.

I was messing around with the power options of when to turn off the HD's after inactivity under Power Management and it was set to 30min. This was working in the past for sure as I could hear the 2 drives spin up after sitting for extended periods. I disabled the setting as a test and the issue has not returned. Not sure what has changed and why this is not working now. It seems once the HDs turn off they will not recover without a restart of the device. I have to pull the power as holding the power button doesn't turn them off like it use to.

Might check the battery. Glad the work around worked for you though.
