Dir-827 5Ghz Channel keeps dropping out
« on: July 26, 2015, 10:14:57 AM »

I bought this router knowing id probely have issues.  But it as cheap, so...you get what you pay for!  It works great honestly, the only problem I really have is with the 5ghz channel.  It seems like it will just go bad anytime Im downloading large files or sometimes just randomly.  Everything still connects but its just shows this page can not be displayed.  I have to reboot the router and it work fine for another week.  I have 50 Mbps internet through Time Warner Cable.  Any ideas?

Link>Welcome!

  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Wireless Configurations
Links>Wireless Installation Considerations and Managing Signal Congestion and Good Neighbour Policy
  • Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Ensure that different SSID names are used between each WiFi 2.4/5Ghz radios. Can be anything and not something that's already in use by any neighbouring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
  • What wireless modes are you using?
  • What wireless devices do you have connected?
  • Ensure any devices with WiFi adapter drivers are updated.
  • Any 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz cordless house phones or WiFi APs near by that maybe causing interferences?
  • Any other WiFi routers in the area that maybe causing interferences? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many? Use v3, its free.

Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.

Sorry forgot all that!

FW 1.05
HW A.1
Located in Socal, 92833
SSID is changed, 5G is serperated with same name +5G
Mac books, Ipads, Foscam Camera, Nest Thermostat, WD My Cloud, Iphones, Mac Pro, Brothers wireless printer, no house phones or 2.4/5G signals interferring that I personnely have.

I just tried changing the channels from auto to specific channels, and security to WPA2.  I also went into DHCP and reserved IP addresses for all my devices.
Placement of router is central. But below my wireless 4K TV and next to my WD My Cloud, as well as Apple TV.

Ill read through those links and advise.  Thanks!
