Power Cycling DIR-868L
« on: September 09, 2016, 06:08:52 PM »

I bought my router used off of Amazon. When I tried to use it, my internet connection wouldn't work. Without it being connected to the modem, when I plug in my router the power will blink green and then become solid. The Internet LED will then turn on to a blinking orange, solid orange, and then green. The router will then shut off and restart. I have been able to connect to the internet a few times when there's a time lapse between the router restarting and both lights being solid green.

I've tried resetting it, doing a 30/30/30 reset and moving it away from my modem by 3 feet. I'm pretty sure it's a hardware issue, but could use some experienced feed back

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?
  • Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?
  • I would manually reload the FW using the following

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?

Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status. I haven't been able to get this far. The router restarts too quickly, so I'm assuming what ever is standard for my model. I'll try to manually reload the firmware.
What region are you located? USA
Are you wired or wireless connected to the router? Wired
What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL? Time Warner Cable, so cable
What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have? It's a Motorola MB7420 that I bought that meets TWC specifications. They haven't provided a modem.

You can try this as well to see if the router can take a FW load:

I've been a bit busy, but decided to work on it tonight. The router will power off after about 15 secs. I've got the new firmware update ready to go, but it looks like the process will take a few minutes. I'm not sure how to keep the router on long enough for the upgrade to happen. I tried doing the emergency flashing link, and wasn't able to get past step 8. With the router constantly turning itself off, I can't have it connected to the PC and have a stable enough connection to get things done.

Edit: A page did show up that asked for a firmware update, as the one that is on the router is 1.06 but I didn't have it downloaded and haven't been able to recreate how to get to that page.

So are you getting the recovery page at all? You can load any FW version if you can get to the recovery page and if the router stays ON...

Check the power adapter voltage at the tip? Make sure its the same as whats on the sticker...

I am not getting the recovery page.
When I tried the emergency flash link, the page on the web browser would not load in either fire fox or in chrome. I think it is because it's turning off. It just continues to cycle every 15 secs.

The voltage on the power supply is 12, same as what is needed for the router.
