Again Javalawyer, I really appreciate your assistance. :)

I read the do's and dont's and I realise I am taking a punt with the EU version.

I'll run the installed HDD's for a couple more days to check stability and then add the next two.

I'm glad things are finally moving in the right direction for you. At the very least, I recommend that you upgrade to the AU or WW firmware when those versions come up to par with the EU version you're currently using.

Just an update. Good news!

I've been running the RAID1 setup for several days now with no problems. Today I added the other two drives into the NAS. What I did was:
- turn the unit off
- add one drive
- use the webUI to format the drive (as a standard drive)
- use the storage utility (on the CD) to map the drive
- repeat for next drive.

Both additional drives were recognised fine, formatted fine, mapped fine.
