Title: 5020L not reconnecting remotely after power outage (but OK on local wifi)
Post by: Rimshot on March 28, 2015, 07:50:01 AM
Apologize if there is an answer elsewhere.   When I have a power outage or spike, my 5020L does not reconnect to internet (ex.  when gaining access remotely, it shows up red), however, it does appear as blue when accessing locally. (on same wifi network).   Further testing locally, I unplugged the camera, then plugged it back in and I was able to access locally and remotely (Router up and running in this scenario).

I'm suspecting the timing of the camera and router coming back online may be an issue, but not sure how to diagnose further or fix.   5020L is running on latest firmware, with a Netgear C3000-100NAS Router.  Any feedback welcomes

Any status on this?

What region are you located?
What FW is currently loaded on the 5020L?

Did you perform a factory reset and set up the camera from scratch while in the same room with both units?

What is the Mfr and model of the main host router?
What wireless modes are you using on the main host router?

Manually set your camera to a fixed ip in your router, not a random one.  You should have no problems then.

I recommend if your going to set a static IP address, set the address to out side the main host routers default DHCP IP address pool. Not with in.

Sorry for the late comeback.  Didn't need to go to a fixed IP.   I read elsewhere on the forums that a good way to handle this is use a timer on the camera such that once a day, the camera will turn off and come back on (I did a 30 minute shutdown as it was the smallest unit on the camera).  This has been working flawlessly.  I've had a few power outages.   The camera would be down after that - for internet access.  But after the timer kicked in, the camera came back and connected to the internet.

As an aside, I thought there was a way thru this forum to get automatically notified if there were any replies to your post ?   I'll look again but if there is this capability, appreciate any enlightenment....

I would not recommend using a timer power unit on these units...they should work normally with out any power cycle interventions. using a timer may reduce the life of the power adapter and this unit over time.

To the contrary, a number of users have successfully used a house timer for years with other camera models to perform a daily power cycle.  While it's true that these camera's shouldn't hang, there are circumstances where they do and cycling the camera corrects the issue.  This was an issue with the DCS-942L and I believe the DCS-5222L (if memory serves) and D-Link eventually added an option in FW to perform a daily reboot on a schedule.  Although I can't officially advocate a house timer as the "best solution", this approach has successfully worked for a number of other users in similar situations.  Particularly when obtaining physical access to the camera is not readily available (e.g. a summer home located in another country).

That said, to date I've never encountered an issue with non-responsiveness on the DCS-5020L.

Interesting interchange between you two power users (have to thank you both for all you do for us !).

Since putting that timer on my 5020L (it's a remote location), I've had no further issues (relative to internet connection thru my wireless router after a power outage).  Interestingly, my 933L at my local location came back on just fine with my cable modem went down and had to be reactivated by TWC.

What Mfr and model is the ISP modem?
What Mfr and model is the main host router?
What wireless modes are you using?
What is the distance between the Camera and the main host router?
How many other wireless devices do you have connected to the main host router?

Test cameras with uPnP and uPnP Port Forwarding both enabled on ALL cameras: DCS Cloud (L) Series Camera Configuration and Mydlink.com (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=62395.0)

I haven't seen this with my 933L since updating to v1.13 however mines connected to a DIR-890L. I've rebooted and turned off the router and used others routers and the camera has re-connected each time.

Hi,
I have a similar issue/question.  I did accept a firmware upgrade request (how stupid) and since then I do not have access anymore to my remote DCS-935L.

Any suggestions to regain access?  My camera is on a remote location and will not have access for several months.  A powercycle is not possible unless hoping for a grid interrupt.  I could restart the router remotely but I am afraid of loosing connection to an other camera I have on that location?  Any recommendations?

Thank you,

John

It sounds like you can log into your router.

Does the camera have an IP address? Set up port forwarding to the camera if it does.  make 8300 point to the 192.168.x.y:80
You should be able to login to the camera's F/W webpage to access?

Dear RYAT3,
I do have an other camera connected to the remote modem but other than changing the password there is nothing I can change on the remote device.  Changing port forwarding settings is not possible.  Grrrrr.
Since I can access my other camera I could imagine I could also ping the unavailable camera?
Any advise?
John

I'm not sure you follow me.

Which router do you have?  Do you know the admin/password for the router?  Can you log into the router remotely?

@RYAT3

The remote modem is Zyxel but do not seem to be able to log into it.   Grrrrr
