UPnP not working.
« on: December 12, 2019, 09:35:59 PM »

Hello, I'm running a DIR-882 with stock firmware version 1.2.
Running Warframe on my PC, with cable, the game reports that UPnP isn't working.

Obviuously UPnP is enabled on the router. It always worked on my Archer C60 stock, or on DDWRT.

Other thing I can't do on the DIR-882, is to set up DNS for DHCP. I use pihole and setting it as the connection DNS isn't ideal.

It's the first time I've spend more on a router and I'm disapointed with the D-Link firmware. It doesn't seem to have a stable enough DDWRT build, too.

A "gaming" router should have extensive features and options on the firmware. TP-Link routers have much better firmwares in my experience.

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?
  • Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?
  • Was a Factory Reset performed before and after any firmware updates then set up from scratch?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?

Last time I had my 882 online with two game consoles online at the same time, uPnP was working for me:

Do other games exhibit the same?
Do other PCs exhibit the same?

If WRT isn't stable then you'll need to notify the DD-WRT team over on there forum site for that.

The DIR-882 is not designed or categorized as a "gaming" router:

D-Link last "gaming" router was the DGL-5500. D(G)L was the model nomenclature for a gaming router.

Lets do a bit more troubleshooting before putting the FW totally to blame.  ;)

Thank you for the quick response. Sorry I sounded a little harsh, it's just frustrating.

What region are you located?

South America.

Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?

Directly with Cat 6 cable.

Was a Factory Reset performed before and after any firmware updates then set up from scratch?

Yes. Tried the DDWRT build available on D-Link's FTP, was unstable, upgraded to latest vanilla DDWRT build, bootlooped, then reverted to stock (1.05 middle for recovery mode) and updated to 1.2.

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?

It's a local fiber ISP, connected to the WAN port with PPPoE. (140/75 Down/Up)

Do other games exhibit the same? Do other PCs exhibit the same?

Not a game, but I run a Plex server on a Raspberry Pi 4 that uses UPnP for remote access. Remote access only works when manually forwarding the port.

If WRT isn't stable then you'll need to notify the DD-WRT team over on there forum site for that.

Trust me, I've been there. There's no definitive stable firmware. There are even custom DDWRT builds for this.

This is the box the router came in:

Apparently other regions are calling this a gaming router.  ;D

Is the WAN side of the dlink router getting a public IP or are you behind another router/gateway? UPnP will not work properly if in double-NAT.

What are you using from the outside to connect? Plex app on iOS or Android or Plex client software on PC?

When you enable Remote Access on Plex, are you getting the "not available outside your network" error?

I will ask one of the techs in the US office to try this early next week. They use a 882 on one of the test networks so it shouldn't take too much time to test.

The DD-WRT files on the D-Link FTP server are old and unstable. I should probably get them removed.

The tech already tested it and it is not working as you said. D-Link will do more testing and send a ticket to the engineers.

Interesting the regional box seems different:

I still feel that this isn't actually a "gaming" router. The stock UI doesn't present it as such nor does it have any "gaming" features in the UI.  :-\

Glad the issue was confirmed. Hope it can get fixed soon.
