DIR-827 & DAP-1360 & Samsung Smart TV question?
« on: June 25, 2014, 01:06:01 PM »

Hi.

I have the DIR-827 as an AP with only the 2.4 GHZ channel (5 GHZ is disabled). this device is located at the ground floor.

On the first floor I have a DAP-1360 as a repeater. (placed above the DIR-827)

Almost everything works fine, obviously at the first floor, there are sometimes where the WiFi speed is not 100% as the ground floor, but I can deal with it.

My main concern is that my Samsung Smart TV, which is at the ground floor and located about 2 mts away from the DIR-827, almost always prefer to pick the WiFi from the DAP-1360, I can tell that since when checking the WiFi on the smart tv, the signal appears with 2 bars and I constantly have issues with Netflix and other streaming services.

I don't know why the Smart TV prefers the weak signal of the DAP-1360 instead of the near DIR-827!

Since the "Smart" (note the quotes  ;D) TV don't have an option to force the connection to the DIR-827, I wanted to know if it's possible on the DAP-1360 to turn the MAC filter on and deny the Smart tv, my guess is that doing so will avoid the Smart TV to connect to the DAP-1360 and then it will connect to the DIR-827, am I correct? and that kind of filtering could also be applied to other devices? for example, to force a device to always connect to the DIR-827 or DAP-1360?

PS Smart TVs almost always act as Dumb TVs  ;D

Thanks

Im not sure if some of the features are available on the 1360 when in repeater mode. You should be able to access the 1360s web page while in repeater mode I think and look at the features available, if you see MAC Filtering, then maybe.

Hi FurryNutz

the DAP-1360 in repeater mode has MAC filtering function.

i will do the test Today at night, yesterday my Smart TV was connected to the DIR-827, so Netflix worked fine.

But don't want that for some reason the Smart TV connects to the DAP-1360, if so then I'm sure that my wife will call me to complain  ;D

Hope that adding the Smart TV to the DAP-1360 MAC filtering and deny it, solves that issue

Sorry, forgot to update with my results:

Doins that kind of MAC filtering worked like a charm! ;D

Now my Smart TV only connects to the DIR 827 and not to the DAP-1360!!!

Kind regards!
