Title: DIR-890L - 2.4 WiFi Connection Issue
Post by: starbase007 on September 20, 2016, 06:46:06 AM
Hi,

I searched everywhere but can't seem to find a resolution to this issue...  My small office has a DIR-890L router.  The router is set to broadcast both the 5g and 2.4 signals.  Most devices here have dual band NIC cards and connect to the 5g WiFi.  However, there are some PC's in our office that do not have dual band NIC cards.  For some reason that I can't explain after time the older single band NIC PC's disconnect for the 2.4 WiFi network and will not reconnect to it unless I reset the router.  For example, the older PC will be connected to the 2.4 WiFi, but over time I discover that they all have disconnected and will no reconnect to the WiFi.  The dual-band PC's stay connected to the 5g connection and never drop.  However, when I try to connect on of the dual band PC's to the 2.4 WiFi network they don't connect either.

The PC's can see the 2.4 WiFi network but just can't connect to it.  The only way to resolve this issue is to restart the router.  Sometimes I can't do that during office hours cause it would disrupt others using the WiFi for business purposes.  Any thoughts on how I can get the 2.4 connection to remain up and prevent the older PC's from disconnecting / unable to connect to it?

I can send the router settings if needed... Just let me know what settings you would need from our router.

Thank you for your help!

Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.[/list]

Hi,

Thank you for the suggestions... I made some changes in the WiFi Router settings based on your suggestions.

Going to see if this makes the difference...  If not, I will report back with additional information regarding my office setup.
