Hello, I have been a user of this product for almost 2 years now.

Recently I changed the ISP and they gave us a combo router/modem from thomson.

Had the machine been better I would use that without any problems, but the router was still needed because of data transfer speeds at work.

Thus I decided to turn off the DHCP of the D-link since it was refusing to connect to the thompson machine (probably because it was also acting as a router and there were conflicts).

Unlike many topics that say to plug the WAN cable in the port 1 of the D-link, it works fine in the WAN port so I left it there. Now Internet works and the NAS connected to it works however is not for all PCs. I have all 4 devices connected in all the ports, however it only recognizes 3 out of the 4 devices connected to it, so 1 of them always stays offline.

When I look at the router, only 3 of the 4 port lights are on, is there any way to fix this or is it acting like this because its using the WAN port like it was one of the outbound ports?

Extra - I only turned off DHCP, didn't touch on anything else except change the IP of this router so it wouldn't go into any conflicts with the combo router when accessing settings. Due to turning off DHCP I cannot access this router but this isn't a problem, what I really want is for all 4 ports to work WITH an internet connection. When I reset this router everything works and there is no net connection, turn off DHCP, net connection but again, only 3 out of 4 devices work.

First of all you need to check whether the cable is broken or the cable is not connected.  Second, piggy back a second router to the modem/router, you need to use DHCP dynamic or PPPoE connection that the second router follows the modem/router in order to make the internet connection.  Just let the second router distribute the IP addresses to the LAN devices.

What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.

@slpip. Are you suggesting that I turn off DHCP and the things on the modem/router that was provided by the ISP?? Won't that cause problems in the long run??

@FurryNutz. Well, I am in Brazil and the ISP is NET Virtua. The Modem is a Thomson TWG 850-4b. As far as bridging goes it can only do wireless bridging, which I don't want to mess with.

Then I would see if it has a DMZ in the ISP modem. I have messed around with one Thompson modem in Norway and the one I helped with didn't have any bridging, However I think it had a DMZ. You could put the 655 WAN ip address it gets from the ISP modem into it's DMZ and then test.

Having 2 routers on the same line will cause connections issues and if the ISP modem doesn't have any DMZ or bridging options, then I would recommend you get a wireless AP or DAP device instead of using a actual router. At the very least you can turn the 655 into an AP however you will loose the features of the routers abilities by doing this.

I did make the 655 into an AP, but that's causing too many problems, which is why I'm asking for help. Well, not big issues, but I just want to be able to use all devices on it.

While we're at it, the DMZ option is confusing me quite a bit. How do I go onto doing that in the first place?? Do I put in the router IP which I changed? Since it was the default I changed the last number, making it 192.168.0.* so that it wouldn't clash with the thompson. Now, in DMZ mode I just put the changed router IP, correct??

Would that also cause a clash or would the router be now independent and thus enabling me to leave the DHCP on the router on?

First of all, just connect the WAN port of the router to the modem. Log into the 655 router and go to the Status/Device Info/WAN section. See what the WAN IP address is there. It should be a 192.168 address. Write this down. Now go into the Modems web page and find the DMZ option, input the address you wrote down for the 655 router. Apply the setting in the modem. See if this works.
