Title: 2.4GHz drops on occasion and Guest inconsistent in staying off.
Post by: dg_102 on May 01, 2018, 06:58:24 AM
Hi,

I have a
Model Name: DIR-885L
Hardware Version: A2
Firmware Version: 1.20

My configuration is:
D-Link 885L A2 the main router connected to a fiber convertor in the basement.
Tp-Link as an access point on the top floor gateway using the DHCP from the main router.

On occasion devices connected to 2.4Ghz(D-Link) are dropped(even if they are 10 feet away) and they reconnect the access point located on the top floor.

Current configuration on the D-Link is:

SC enabled
Transition power is Medium

If I configure this on the Desktop GUI, the Guest Zone becomes active with the default dlink-guest and no password. I can connect to it and view it on a scanner. The only way to disable guest is to go on my phone and disable it from there. When using a scanner app from my phone I can see that the 2.4 GHz goes all the way up and then disappear for a few seconds. 5Ghz is rock solid does not show any of the 2.4GHz behavior.

Any advice on configuration would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

dg.

So you have the DIR and TP-Link wireless running at the same time?
What channels are you using on the DIR and TP-Link? These need to be separate and far away channels from each other. DIR set to channel 11 and TP-Link set to channel 1 on 2.4Ghz. Set channel 36 on DIR and 149 on TP-Link on 5Ghz.

Region: Toronto, Canada

I set the DIR to 11 and 36 and the other AP router on 1 and 149 as suggested. I had turned off the Smart Connect so I had access to set the channel on DIR.

I will keep you posted if anything changed when I get home.

Thank you.

What is the distance between the DIR and TP-Link? Feet?

It is about 27ft going up through three wood floors.

OK. You might set power levels on the TP-Link to medium or low and DIR to High and test later on if you see other issues.
