Tried to update mine to this version and observed the following.
1. Got a consistent 40MHz channel width for WiFi N and 450mbps max data rate unlike 20MHz width and 216mbps in 1.04WW before.
2. Disconnection of DCS cameras is now seldom.
3. Don't know but I can connect my phones and PC inside my room using both AC and N connection.

In short, it feels great to upgrade my 880L with 1.05b01 version.  Thanks D-Link!!!

Hope the wishlist for this unit would be gradually implemented in the next firmware version without connection degradation.

Very curious why this firmware update hasn't appeared at the official DIR-880L support page:

http://support.dlink.com/ProductInfo.aspx?m=DIR-880L

Is it an intermediary release (work in progress fix) ? ? ?

I'm just wondering whether or not I should wait for it to become available on the support page.

Thanks,

Mark

Its a security release so it fixes some security bugs. You can install it if you wish. It may or may not appear on the main model site,

Question, can you reserve and give host names to your devices?

This security update works great.

Yes, I have several IP addresses reserved.  I had been able to rename devices with firmware v1.04 but I haven't tried to do it with this version.

I'd like to confirm if this build version has no problem in setting connected devices in any of the level setting of the QOS engine.  Tried from factory reset but until setting everything from admin password, internet connection/mydlink registration and wireless configuration, nothing save in the setting in the screen.  Even the remembered devices are online or offline, still can't be configured.  Even the new download/upload bandwidth can't be set.  Am I missing something?  Thanks!

What browser are you using?
Try IE, Opera or FF?

Tried IE11, Edge, Firefox 40, Chrome 44 but to no avail.  Tried setting one a time but still it can't save any devices in either from highest to medium.   Is there a prior condition like not connected to internet to set it or these devices should be disabled first.  For a month, I've tried even the previous 1.04WW but was able to save the configuration only using 1.03W.

This is something you probably need to phone your regional D-Link support office about and see if they can figure this out. There maybe an issue with the FW...

Since I'm going to remap my IP addresses for different gadgets so I tried to factory reset DIR-880L.   Able to restore some settings manually but for QOS, I was able to some  terminals but afterwards, I cant' add new one even there are many available slots yet.  So you're right to factory reset in order to save one.  But is this setting, one time only?

You'll need to make you QoS settings soon after the factory reset is done and you've used the Setup Wizard.

I'll pass this along to D-Link and make sure they know about this. Were seeing the same behavior on the DIR-890L as well.

Thanks to all of your feedback.  I hope that this new UI would be more easy to set but with acceptable or same standard with the previous UI.  Unlike before that you can simply set it without connecting the device first to the router and only by defining its MAC address and static IP address.

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.

Hi,

Region : Netherlands
Firmware : 1.05WW

I received the DIR-880L with firmware 1.01 and updated directly to 1.05 in this order : factory reset, update FW, factory reset and adjust settings.
Can confirm that Address reservation works well now, with host name change.

The router is blazing fast, even on 150 Mbps 2.4 Mhz adapters!!

I see two glitches (?):
- When I activate the Guest 2.4 Ghz NW, the speed on my normal 2.4 Ghz NW is half the speed as before; same on the Guest NW. Is this normal? I have never seen this on other routers.
- I could reserve an IP-address for my TP-Link Print Server TL-WPS510U immediately after the firmware upgrade and it is reserved. I do not see it however in the connected devices overview anymore. All the other reserved devices appear either in bue (active) or in grey (inactive). Any experience on this?

And a wish : Plse make the GUI logoff time adjustable in the GUI or create a logoff function. Now you just must be lucky to save in time.

Regards, Hugo

I upgraded to this 1.05WW version today, I noticed DL fixed the problem introduced in 1.04WW where you could no longer disable the UPNP media server feature and the USB connection is again showing on the home page.  I did not notice any other regressions in upgrading.

While I was interested in this version for the security fix, I noticed on the QoS page a new feature has been added where you can specify your ISP service speed caps.   But no matter what I type in here and tap save it does not save the settings.  It appears to be a work in progress.

Furry can you ask DL what's the plan with this feature going forward?  I find it interesting as I ended up not using the QoS client boxes as it was not working as expected at my speed levels (slowed everything down too much).

I'm on TWC in the USA, with 300Mpbs down/20Mpbs up service.

What happens if you do a factory reset, walk thru the initial set up wizard, then go directly into QoS and set your ISP speeds?

Furry, initially I did not use the wizard.

I'm using the 880L as a wired gigE router, so both radios needed to be disabled.  Had to use manual setup to get this configured as when I first tried the wizard it wanted to do WiFi.   But just for grins I tried the factory reset, and again manually set it up as a wired router.  But the QoS settings are still not saving.

Perhaps a bug where D-Link did not anticipate a configuration where both radios are being disabled.

If you can factory reset and walk thru the setup wizard if you can. Just go thru the motions then when you complete the wizard, immediately go in and try to set QoS settings and see. You can configure the radios after testing QoS.

I ran the wizard as suggested.  I also upgraded to the new 1.05WWB02 that just came out in the USA support site this week.  This new firmware version says it specifically addresses this problem.   But it's still not working for me.

Hi Furry,

Can you please have a look at my entry a few posts back and comment on it?
I describe two glitches I found in 1.05b01.

I most certainly will have a problem with the half speed NW. When I switch the guest NW on, the speed of the regular NW and the guest NW are half of the normal speed. I have a 120/12 Mbit network and this problem decreases troughput to half of it.
I can live with the other one, but would still like to see my Print server.

I'll have a look with the Guest Zone issue on mine to see if I see that same issue.

For the print server. I recommend using a static IP address for the server thats outside of the Default DCHP IP address pool. 192.168.0.51 would be good to start with.
Be sure to have the clients connect to this IP address and maybe a refresh of the printer drivers would be good and ensure that the printer drivers are pointed to the static IP address.

Ok so I put my 880L online today and did a factory reset.
I walked thru the setup wizard and got to the end however the Next and Back buttons were grayed out so I could not complete the wizard. I had to refresh the browser. After the re-fresh, I logged in and directly went to set up the ISP speeds for QoS. I selected Save and the expected 80sec reboot window failed to be displayed. This was using Mac OSX 10.10.5 and Safari and Chrome. The 80sec windows needs to be displayed then you'll know the changes took effect. Not working on OSX I guess.

I switched over to my WIndows 10 PC and used IE 11 and made the ISP speed change in QoS, this time I saw the 80sec reboot window after selecting Save. After the reboot I checked the settings and they were what I configured.
I ran a speed test: 50/3 ISP
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/4653633862.png) (http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4653633862)

Seem that there is an issue in configuration on Mac OSX.

I'll check out reservations next and post my results in that thread.

I always use a static address for my print server. I reduced the DHCP range to 192.168.0.150-199. My print server is always on 192.168.0.132, so outside the DHCP-range. Same with other reserved deivces; they are all in the 192.168.0.100-149 range.
New discoveries :
- When I reboot the printserver, the print server suddenly displays in the connected devices overview and stays there.
- When I reboot the router, the print server disappears again, untill I reboot the print server.

Did you already check/try the Guest NW? It's only on the 2.4 Ghz NW and particularly nasty with 150 Mbps adapters, like the Atheros AR9485WB-EG. Then i cannot use the full potential of my 120/12 internet connection.
With 300 Mbps adapters it's still nasty, but bearable.

I'll have a look with the Guest Zone issue on mine to see if I see that same issue.

So the print server has an IP address ON the printer server and not the router right?
Seems like this maybe a printer server issue possibly. is the print servers FW up to date? Seems like if the router is rebooted the printer server fails to handshake with the router to let it know that it has an IP address, static and that it's online.  :-\

I haven't had a chance to test guest zone yet. I'll try this weekend.

No, the print server address is reserved in the router and the print server is set to automatic - 'use DHCP'. I always reserve devices in the router, never in the device itself.
There is no new firmware for the print server and the connected printer is an old USB Brother laser printer HL-1430, so only basic driver of Windows.
It always works, also when it is not displayed in the connected clients display. The printer driver contains the IP-adress by the way; hostname does not work.
In my other routers (1 TP-Link and 2 D-Link's) I always saw it, but sometimes only with the mac-address and not the IP-address. I think it's a glitch in the print server firmware: pity, but not disturbing operation of the printer.
I have another Brother real wireless printer connected and also reserved in the router. In the printer driver it connects by it's Hostname. It is always in the list.

So the print server has an IP address ON the printer server and not the router right?

I have been ill, so a late answer.
The test you asked for showed the same results as before.
- After reboot of the printserver it showed up in the connected devices list.
- A subsequent reboot of the router made it disappear again, but still accessible.
- Next a reboot of the printserver made it show up again.
So, I leave it this way, as i can now reserve it and that was the goal after all.

The other issue with the guest network suddenly disappeared after the third enable of the guest-network, so that is fine now, but still unexplained.

In general I am very pleased with router : It is stable and very fast. Besides of the timezone problem, i do not have any further problems with  it.
I would like to have the inactive time increased or better made user adjustable, as now it is sometimes interrupts adjustment operations.

Thanks for all the help.

Regards, Hugo

At some point you might want to upgrade to Build 02 and see how it goes:

You can set printers and print servers IP address to static on these devcies thats out side of the routers default DHCP IP address pool. So you don't have to worry about them.
