Title: 5TB encrypted container
Post by: Vampyr on August 05, 2011, 10:36:26 AM
Hi everyone,

I have the DNS-343 with 4 2TB drives in a raid 5 configuration.
After the raid 5 configuration, I have 5.36TB of available space.

I was wondering if it would be safe to have a single 5TB encrypted container.
Is it safe to have a single file this large?
If one of the drives fails, will a 5TB file still be able to be rebuilt?

Thanks!

In theory, yes. RAID 5 maintains redundancy for all data on the Volume. Whether this will work in practice, I won't hazard to guess.

Additionally, you should maintain a separate physical copy of your data in the event of a failure. RAID 5 provides redundancy, but is not a true backup.
