94 % Hang - how to access to update firmware
« on: February 10, 2017, 05:06:26 PM »

Hey!

i bought a dns-323, it has the 1.02 firmware. I tried several HDDs, but everytime the formatting hangs up at 94 %. The problem is well known as it is discussed many times. As a rule the upgrade to diffrent firmware seems to be the solution for that problem. Now, how should I upgrade the firmware in case the formatting of a HDD seems to be the very first step to get to any setup?

Thanks for help.

To access the webUI configuration, assuming you haven't changed the defaults, open your web browser and enter htt://190.168.0.32/ in the address bar.  That should bring up the DND-323 login screen.  login to 'Configuration', then go to 'Tools' --> 'Firmware', point to where you have downloaded the new firmware on your computer and let it update what is there DO NOT switch the unit off until it has confirmed that the update is complete.

When it has updated reboot the NAS, login to the webUI 'Configuration' and format the drives from there.

Most of the problems with drive formatting stem from using the easy search CD.  Since we never use that we have never had problems with formatting the drives.  Also we make sure that the drive size does not exceed that that the firmware supports.

thanks. I know how to access the webUI, but before i can access 'tools' i have to formate the hdd (remember, the dns-323 is secondhand und resetet), and here the problem begins: 94 % hang, no update to other firmware because no access to 'tools'.

Is it possible to update via ssh?

Very strange, since we have updated the firmware on these units without any hard disks in them.

Can I assume you are following the install wizard rather than doing direct access via the webUI?  If that is the case then forget the wizard and go directly to where you can can access the 'Tools' menu and work from there.

it is strange. I'm not able to update without hdd in it (see the picture).
I'm in contact with support. Let's see, what they suggest.

Somehow it worked. I didn't do anything different than just let it formate some hours. Maybe, patience is another solution? I updated the system and it's working.
